New technicians are required to complete our extensive training program for Pharmacy Technicians and satisfy all registration, licensing and certification requirements according to your state's Board of Pharmacy guidelines.

  • Balances quality and efficiency in all tasks, contributing to both patient outcomes and broader team goals.

  • As allowable in applicable states, certified and trained Pharmacy Technicians can expand on their clinical and managerial responsibilities, including administering vaccinations.

Physical Demands

  • Standing / walking for an extended period of time.

  • Near vision; ability to see details at close range to perform activities such as: transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, visual inspection involving small parts

  • Wrist / finger speed; ability to make fast, simple, repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

  • Ability to push and pull objects, including drawers and other items of similar weight, as well as reaching overhead.

  • Ability to handle and work with small instruments and objects.

  • Bending/squatting/leaning to a considerable degree and requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Is able to load and unload trays/cases/totes (30 pound maximum to a height of 4 feet).

  • Auditory attention; ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds.

  • Effective verbal communication; expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, especially when detailed or important instructions must be conveyed accurately.

  • Ability to move quickly from one task to another according to the needs of the pharmacy.

  • The ability to concentrate on a task for significant periods of time.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age

  • Licensure requirements vary by state. Learn more by visiting your state's Board of Pharmacy website or asking the hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

  • National Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician certification program approved by specific state regulations (e.g. PTCB, ExCPT, etc.).

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Maintains and optimizes the automated dispensing systems and temperature monitoring system. When requested, assists the pharmacist in the, filling medication requests, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and may assist in the preparation of IV admixtures. Performs duties in accordance with that of hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines. Responsible for organizing work load as assigned. Displays professional, safe conduct in all interactions. Maintains positive working relationships with staff, other departments, physicians and peers. Displays conduct in support of CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Mission & Vision. Position Responsibilities: * Quality – completes work with accuracy and thoroughness. * Productivity – efficiently utilizes time in accomplishing work. * Customer Focus – lives organizational and departmental service standards. * Reliability – completes tasks assigned; follows up as needed. * Availability – meets attendance standards; is punctual; works when needed. * Decision Making – displays sound judgment; works with minimal supervision. * Initiative – seeks out productive duties in absence of guidance; is a self-starter. * Adheres to Policy – follows CHI St. Luke's Memorial rules, policies, procedures and guidelines. * Interpersonal Relationships – cooperates, communicates and works well with others. * Professionalism – represents CHI St. Luke's Memorial positively in actions and appearance. * May serve in leadership and advisory role as assigned for the pharmacy technician group in areas of work processes and practices, training, schedules, performance standards, continuing education, competency validation, representation at appropriate meetings, and other areas as assigned * Coordinate the use of the automated drug distribution system for pharmacy such as database management, resetting of par and reorder levels, cabinet optimization, coordinating maintenance, service support liaison and other * Coordinate the use of the automated dispensing system and temperature monitoring system to assure proper system operation, alarm monitoring and reporting and other * Assist the pharmacist in filling medication orders, prescriptions, and pharmacy stock * Accurately prepare medications for the pharmacist to check, when appropriate, including appropriate auxiliary labels, in a timely manner * Assure that a pharmacist's final check and signature documentation of all products has occurred when appropriate prior to their delivery * Attend promptly to the directives of the pharmacist and supervisory personnel * Accurately prepare sterile products in a timely manner, adhering to required aseptic technique at all times * Accurately select the appropriate drug product(s) required for the preparation of sterile products and assure that all necessary components are available for final check by the pharmacist * May be Responsible for purchasing activities, assisting other areas within the pharmacy as needed. * Promotes department-based goals and contributes to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff. * Establishes/maintains effective and respectful communication in all collaborative relationships. * Rotates weekend/call responsibilities in a professional and accountable fashion if applicable. * Performs duties in accordance with that of hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines. * Accountable for maintaining required certifications. * Performs other duties as assigned. OR Completion of a nationally approved, accredited formal Pharmacy Technician training program Licensure/Certification Minimum Licensed Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) & BLS certification - through an approved AHA program & * Completion of an ACPE approved 40 hour sterile products course (must be completed within 60 days of date of hire &/or transfer into position) Preferred Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective verbal and written communication skills Experience Minimum No previous experience required.
