Job Description:

As a Pharmacy Technician I - Sterile Compounding you will be working with cutting edge technology compounding specialized and complex therapies within the clean room environment. The Pharmacy Technician is essential to ensuring patients receive their medications in a timely manner. The Pharmacy Technician position is responsible for utilizing their clinical and IV/TPN knowledge alongside the pharmacist to provide specialty infusion services that will be delivered/ administered to patients in their homes.

As part of the Coram Sterile Compounding team you will utilize your clinical knowledge and provide our patients with the smooth service and delivery of their medication to their homes. Make a difference by bringing your personal touch and clinical experiences that will support our patient's one on one care.

Additional responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician I - Sterile Compounding include:

  • Preparation and compounding of sterile products

  • Maintaining the pharmacy clean room suite to 797 requirements

  • Documentation of IV admixture and clean room suite sterility testing

  • Complete order entry and refills under the supervision of the pharmacist

  • Inventory management and storage, complete appropriate documentation, such as labels, log sheets and reports

  • Participate in on call rotation as indicated by staffing and business needs

  • Have excellent written and verbal customer service skills and advanced computer skills in order to interact with key partners and patients

  • Additional licensure may be required in multi-state service areas

Required Qualifications

  • Active state Pharmacy Technician license required as outlined by state guidelines

  • Minimum of 1 year of pharmacy technician experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Pharmacy Technician certification preferred
  • 2+ years of IV compounding experience


Verifiable High School diploma or GED is required.

Serves as a referral source of identifying potential cases for case management. Accountabilities * Authorize specific pharmacy related services to ensure appropriate use of Plan's policies and procedures. Utilizes education/clinical experience to determine appropriateness of pharmaceuticals ordered through documented review of established exception process utilizing the Compass/Anchor system and Macess software to verify eligibility, review claim data (both rejected claims and processed claims,) enter authorization/overrides and document exception process requests. * Meet specific telephone performance standards as indicated in the Pharmacy Department's quality indicators. * Identify and refer members to case management that are at risk for long-term, high-cost health care. * Confer with physician offices, network and mail order pharmacies, plan Case Managers, Pharmacy Benefit Manager (Express Scripts), Plan Pharmacists, and Plan Medical Director or Associate Medical Directors on pertinent case questions as appropriate. If case is denied by Plan Medical Director/Plan Pharmacists, final processing is completed according to the plan's denial process. * Communicate with all external and internal customers/personnel regarding policies and procedures to ensure consistent administration thereof. * Perform other duties as directed. Job Requirements * Must be a Certified Medical Assistant or Pharmacy Technician in the state of Ohio or hold a comparable clinical certification or license. * Minimum 2 years recent clinical or HMO experience required. * Excellent interpersonal communication (oral and written) and customer service skills required. * Familiarity with medical terminology specific to pharmacy, including reading/interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. * Ability to plan, coordinate and organize multiple priorities. * Ability to operate general office equipment, including computers, telephones and fax/copy machines. * Perform basic PC skills: Windows, Word Processing, Email, internet-based software. * Ability to answer and effectively communicate telephonically. * Ability to work on a computer at least 7.5 hours daily. * Regularly required to sit for long periods of time and occasionally stand and walk.
