Summary: This position is responsible for performing pharmaceutical related functions in compliance with state and federal regulations, protocol specific requirements, and the Company's values, policies, and procedures under the direction of the Pharmaceutical Services Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned at the company's sole discretion.

  • Receives, labels, stores, organizes, and returns/destroys study medications for clinical trials.

  • Prepares and updates all drug inventory logs and ensures logs are current with all clinical trial drug preparation schedules.

  • Assists with the preparation, labeling, dispensing, and recording of study drugs.

  • Assists with the ordering, organizing, and inventory of concomitant medications.

  • Serves as an unblinded staff member to meet the requirements of specific protocols.

  • Works with all staff and departments in a collaborative effort to provide quality pharmaceutical services in a timely fashion.

  • Helps train staff and/or other team members to assist with study drug preparation and verification as needed.

  • Works in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital, research, or community pharmacy setting using sterile IV prep technique and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Understanding and experience with sterile technique. Ability to respect subject confidentiality and blinding procedures. Understanding of medical terminology and calculations. Demonstrates a strong attention to detail with superior organizational skills. Under general supervision, exercises judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques. Ability to self-monitor progress and complete assigned tasks independently. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as an effective team member and with cross-functional groups.

Certificates and Licenses:

Nationally or state licensed and/or certified pharmacy technician or equivalent.

Language Ability:

Must be proficient in English in both verbal and written skills. Able to communicate effectively to employees and management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, WIs, SOP's, medical terminology, and procedure manuals.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Understanding of basic pharmaceutical calculations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent computer skills with working knowledge and proficiency in the current Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
