Education and Experience:
Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training program.
Current licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Virginia.
Successful completion of the National Certification Examination is strongly recommended.
High school diploma; college courses preferred.
Previous Pharmacy Tech experience required; hospital Pharmacy Tech experience strongly preferred.
Excellent communication skills.
Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
Contributes to the effective operation of the department by providing excellent customer service while completing delivery rounds effectively, completing data entry accurately, maintaining records correctly and generating necessary reports.
Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department.
Maintains competence required for current job title/position.
Demonstrates competence in automated dispensing equipment and adheres to established processes and procedures.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Be able to tolerate prolonged standing or sitting.
Walking throughout the hospital/climb stairs.
Repetitive use of hands and fingers.
Transport (lift, carry, store) materials weighing up to 75 pounds to and from the pharmacy to nursing units and storage areas.
Bending Required often for patient care and departmental duties at levels from floor to overhead.
Be able to perform data entry for extended periods of time.
