Under the Direction of the Case Management Supervisor, The Pharmacy Service Technician collaborates closely with the case management staff to provide a coordinated experience for patients and families. The primary responsibilities are to proactively identify medications requiring prior authorization and execute same. This includes benefit checks, attending rounds on assigned units, working collaboratively with the case manager, clinical pharmacist and resident team
Obtains authorizations for post discharge services and documents in computer system
Medication authorizations obtained through pharmacy benefit or medical plan as dictated by the patients benefits
Provides support to the discharge coordination process by attending rounds and collaborating with the clinical pharmacist
Keeps abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes in the pharmacy industry and incorporates knowledge in the performance of job duties.
Identifies problems in process/procedures or services and makes recommendations for improvements.
Conducts discharge follow-up patient phone calls
Able to elicit information during follow-up calls and understands when to have case manager intervene.
Accurately and promptly documents interventions appropriately.
Creates and supports an environment which fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect and diversity. Establishes and maintains positive communication and professional demeanor with internal and external business partners at all times.
Runs case management related reports
Monitors, identifies and communicates trends in payor responses to authorizations requests and advances learning to manager.

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
Required Education and Experience
Required Education: High School Diploma / GED
Required Experience: At least two (2) years medication prior authorization experience
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
Preferred Education: Bachelor degree
Preferred Experience: At least two (2) years Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM), Managed Care, Hospital Pharmacy, Home Infusion Pharmacy, and/or Retail Pharmacy experience
Additional Technical Requirements
Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of PowerPoint.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to be pro-active in following up on projects and tasks.
Excellent phone etiquette.
Ability to handle confidential materials.
Ability to handle multiple tasks.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology and protocol.
