Position Summary:

The Resident provides patient care by performing distributional, clinical, educational, informational, and supervisory functions for the pharmaceutical care of patients in acute and/or ambulatory services. The Resident is enrolled in an organized, directed, postgraduate residency training program that centers on development of the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities needed to pursue rational drug therapy. The Resident performs assignments, tasks, and duties under the supervision and direction of Pharmacists designated as preceptors.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:

Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

A valid Nevada State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License is required or in the process of becoming licensed. Employment may be granted with a valid Nevada Pharmacy Intern License and with documentation that the application for license process has been initiated. Failure to obtain and/or maintain licensure will result in termination of employment.

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

Successful candidates must be referred by the ASHP Resident Matching Program for Pharmacy Residency positions according to the "Match" Agreement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:

Federal, state and county laws and regulations related to the compounding, dispensing, storage and use of medications; pharmacy standards of practice; supervisory principles and practices; controlled substance record keeping and reporting; drug indications, dosage regimen, drug-drug, drug-disease, and drug-nutrient interactions; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; compounding techniques; aseptic techniques; physical properties of drugs; mainframe and personal computers; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.

Skill in:

Reading and interpreting physicians' orders; reading patient's clinical diagnosis and recommending most appropriate medication regimen; re-prioritizing work in response to changing situation; handling, disposing and managing hazardous materials; effectively supervising assigned staff; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and maintain concentration for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or an eligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Duties require handling medications classified as hazardous materials.
