Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Pharmacy Resident you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact as an integral part of our hospital pharmacy team as you take part in a one year post-graduate training program designed to train pharmacy practitioners in all major aspects of inpatient pharmaceutical services. Members of our pharmacy team consider themselves a family where each member works hard to support each other. We are looking for someone who feels patient care is as meaningful as we do. In this Pharmacy Resident role:

  • You will interact with patients, their significant others, and health care team members while maintaining professional standards in serving patients of all ages.

  • You will interpret, transcribe, and/or verify orders accurately into the pharmacy computer system.

  • You will compound and dispense prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patient care.

  • You will monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug and food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose.

  • You will sustain the hospital formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promoting rational drug therapy selection.

  • You will act as a drug information resource to patients, medical staff, nursing staff, and ancillary department personnel.

  • You will provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems.

  • You will serve as a patient therapeutic advocate with efforts directed toward continuous quality improvement of pharmacy services.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy and have received the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree

  • Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Utah by the first day of the residency program.

  • Should have a pharmacist license issued by the State of Utah by September 1st of the associated year and must maintain this license in good standing with the Utah State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Must obtain and/or maintain BLS and ACLS (American Red Cross or American Heart Association) as a requirement of residency training within the first 6 months of residency. Training will be provided by the hospital.

In addition to ER care, both facilities give comprehensive imaging services, including computerized tomography (CT scan), Xray, and ultrasound as well as a fully-equipped medical laboratory.
