Conemaugh Miners Medical Center is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Manager for the Pharmacy department. In treatment and prevention of disease, in support of diagnosis and surgery, and for palliative, comforting therapies, the Pharmacist will provide pharmacy care. Care will correspond to patients; unique medical needs, will be appropriate to the patients' age - newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric, and will follow established dispensing procedures for inpatient and outpatient prescriptions.

Essential Functions:

Provide clinical pharmacy information.

Respond to requests for clinical pharmacy information originate from the attending and resident medical staffs, the Nursing Service, and other clinical departments.

Serve on institutional patient care committees, complete assigned projects and provide information as directed by Committee Chairpersons or the Director of Pharmacy.

Supervise activities of pharmacy technicians.

Assist with plans and projects of the health system's pharmacy department.

Interpret and evaluate pharmacotherapy, routinely review appropriateness/effectiveness, or per physician request, or per protocol directed activities; when appropriate, recommend cost effective drug therapy alternatives.

Supervise/participate in the in-patient and outpatient medication distribution process.

Document drug therapy by maintaining patient specific medication profile.

Dispense medications.

Prepare compounded doses, including sterile products.

Issue drug stock supplies.

Assure proper labeling.

Assure timeliness of services.

Assure patient charge justification.

Effectively utilize automated pharmacy information management systems.

Assist in maintenance of pharmacy information management system.

Maintain dispensing records in accordance with all applicable law/regulations.

Dispense and assure the perpetual inventory justification process for DEA Schedule II drugs.

Inspect and certify proper drug storage.

Assist in inventory control.

Direct pharmacy operations when designated.

Recognize, report adverse drug reactions.

Organizational Expectations:

Serve as Pharmacy Manager of record for the Miners Medical Center pharmacy in accordance with PA State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

Prepare and maintain reports and records as required by the State Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory agencies.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including (but not limited to) The Joint Commission, CMS, PA State Board of Pharmacy, and DEA.

Maintain inventory of controlled substances including record keeping, ordering, development and enforcement of policies and procedures in accordance with DEA requirements.

Oversee purchasing and inventory control of the Miners Medical Center Pharmacy.

Prepare and complete all pharmacy financial and operational reports for Miners Medical Center as required by Miners and LifePoint.

Review and report on medication errors, adverse drug events, drug utilization and other medication safety initiatives.

Plan and participate in quarterly Pharmacy & Therapeutic Committee meetings, including quality assurance reports, medication safety, and formulary review.

Assist in development of pharmacy-related policies specific to MiMC.

Serve as liaison between MiMC staff and MMC pharmacy.

Act as pharmacy representative to committees at MiMC.

Represent MiMC pharmacy at Conemaugh system-wide committees (e.g. Antibiotic Stewardship committee).

Act as the Miners Medical Center contact and liaison for all Lifepoint corporate pharmacy initiatives and provide required reports as requested by Lifepoint.

All other responsibilities as assigned in accordance with qualifications.

Job Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree, or Foreign Graduate Equivalent required.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years pharmacy experience required.

2 years of hospital experience, preferably in a supervisory role or 2 years of pharmacy supervisory experience in any pharmacy setting preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration:

Licensed as a pharmacist in Pennsylvania required.

Skills and Abilities:

Professionally competent, demonstrated expertise in the application of clinical pharmacy principles.

Proficient in the understanding of automated information systems.

Written and oral communication skills.
