We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Clinical Pharmacy Manager to be part of our Pharmacy Department.

General Summary:

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for pharmacy programs, personnel (pharmacists and technicians), and operations within their respective patient care areas. The Pharmacy Manager is a visionary leader within their respective field to lead and develop comprehensive services that deliver the full range of pharmaceutical care. The Pharmacy Manager for Perioperative and Interventional Services will have oversight and responsibility for quality comprehensive pharmaceutical care provided by pharmacists and technicians in perioperative and interventional settings at Rush.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate pharmacy services within their respective area.

  • Provide team and departmental leadership, while maintaining an active practice in their area(s) of oversight.

  • Maintain interdisciplinary relationships in relevant areas to support safe and effective medication use.

  • Collaborate with informatics personnel to optimize use of technology in operations and clinical workflows.

  • Perform outcomes research documenting drug therapy quality and the impact of pharmacy services.

  • Plan performance improvement initiatives relating to medication use and safety.

  • Promote and facilitate adherence to formulary medications and protocols.

  • Assist the Associate Directors in annual evaluation and strategic planning of pharmacy services.

  • Maintain a leadership role in continual transformation of pharmacy practice, information systems, and facilities.

  • Support Sterile Products Supervisor in training, testing, and otherwise administering competencies related to sterile compounding, as well as establishing procedures for batching or acquisition of commercial sterile products.

  • Support residency and experiential education programs. Encourage and support pharmacy staff with developing individual plans for continuing professional development.

  • Serve as a preceptor for postgraduate trainees and students. Serve as a mentor for pharmacy staff, as appropriate.

  • Serve as a member of the Pharmacy, Nutrition, and Therapeutics Committee or other pharmacy or organizational committees relevant to their respective areas.

  • Support onboarding of new pharmacist and technician staff, including coordination of training and competencies specific to their practice areas.

  • Coordinate pharmacy services for surgical, procedural, and anesthesia services, while maintaining an active practice in OR pharmacy.

  • Oversee the operating room satellites, including operative services from the 5-Atrium (pediatric) satellite.

  • Coordinate services for midnight pharmacists and technicians to optimize overnight workflows.

  • Use knowledge of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine practices to support transitions of care and cross-coverage.

  • Actively participate in accreditation surveys related to perioperative, critical care, departmental, and general hospital services.

  • Maintain subject matter expertise of regulatory standards related to ordering, storage, preparation, dispensing, and administration of peri-procedural medication use.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • 6 years practice experience, PharmD. with PGY1 and PGY2 training (or equivalent experience), Illinois licensure, and board certification (specialty certification, as appropriate) required

  • Excellent clinical, written/verbal communication, experience supervising pharmacy personnel and precept pharmacy learners, strong problem-solving skills, experience developing pharmacy services

  • Knowledge of pertinent Information Technology

  • Previous Clinical Coordinator or Residency Program Director experience preferred

  • Previous experience leading a multi professional committee or workgroup preferred
