Job Summary and Qualifications

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting Pharmacists in all daily activities related to

department workflow while knowing and acting in accordance with established policies and procedures.

This position assists in the procurement, preparation, delivery, return, and restocking of medications, and

maintains the ability to use all equipment and technology necessary to fulfill job responsibilities effectively

and efficiently. This technician also facilitates exceptional customer service to both internal and external

customers and is responsible for contributing to a positive work environment.

Participates in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. Maintains

cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and all other customers.

Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the

long-range plan, mission, vision and values of TriStar Horizon.

Position Qualifications

1.Knowledge of general pharmacy practices and procedures.

2.Previous hospital experience preferred.

3.Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with coworkers, vendors and other hospital staff in

all situations

4.Basic computer skills required

5.Basic Life Support certification required within 90 days of hire

6.Must perform all competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist.

7.Enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy with a plan to graduate with a Doctor of

Pharmacy degree within the next 3-4 years.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with researching and documenting potential adverse drug reactions in computer system.

  • Assists the Pharmacists in researching drug information questions.

  • Attends student and pharmacist journal clubs and/or presentations as scheduling allows.

  • Attends at least one Pharmacy and Therapeutics meeting if able or schedule allows.

  • Participates in IV to PO, renal dosing, and kinetics discussions with the pharmacist as appropriate for

their year in school.

  • Responsible for assisting in the procurement, preparation, delivery, return, and restocking of medications to include but not limited to: · Filling and delivering oral medications, compounding parenteral medications, filling automated dispensing cabinets, filling code cart trays and pharmacy kits, restocking returned medications prior to the end of each shift, assisting with putting away pharmacy orders, and notifying the Buyer or Management team of stock-outs and borrowing medications as needed in a timely manner. · Fulfills technician job responsibility list for assigned shift. · Ensures appropriate hand off communication occurs and procedures are followed prior to leaving at the end of shift with proper documentation of all completed or in progress tasks. · Maintains proper demeanor and communication with all hospital employees. · Sustains ability to knowledgeably use and maintain automated equipment. · Actively participates in staff meetings and process improvement initiatives. · Ensures personal compliance with USP 797 / 800 regulations and documentation. · Performs expiration date audits and nursing station inspections with on-time completion, documentation on a daily basis. · Ensures prepacking and compounding logs are completed and filed appropriately. · Assists the DOP and Clinical Manager with the orientation and training of new hires as assigned. · Adheres to all facility and departmental policies / procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs as well as safety, environmental and infection control standards in the performance of work duties. · Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education to remain current. · Performs other duties as assigned by the DOP, Clinical Manager, or Supervising Pharmacist. · Responsible for arranging coverage of whole or partial shifts needed off after the schedule is posted, ensuring approved by DOP or Clinical Manager. · Helps maintain the department in a clean and orderly fashion. · Is compliant with required healthstreams, vaccinations (influenza and TB skin), certifications (BLS), and code of conduct, as well as any other assigned competencies deemed necessary to perform the duties of the position. · Performs daily IV tasks utilizing dose
