Providence is calling a Pharmacy Intern II (Pharmacy, Variable Shift, 0.0 FTE) to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Montana. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • The Intern II will include the following duties:

  • Inpatient core management Problem solving (missing meds, phone triage)

  • Gathering/giving general information with preceptor guidance

  • Compounding prescriptions and medication packaging, as necessary Using computer systems (e.g.Epic, Pyxis)

  • Answering general questions concerning injectable products with preceptor guidance Looking up compatibilities

  • Pharmaceutical calculations (dosing, drip rates, compounding) Completion of patient home medication lists (i.e. PTA med lists)

  • Working on Drug Utilization Evaluations/Audits with preceptor guidance

  • Providing appropriate medication teaching

  • Determine identity, dose and administration schedule of medication ordered

  • Ensure that dosage form is properly labeled. Attaches any auxiliary labels that are required

  • Ensure that inpatient medication gets to the inpatient by appropriate transport mechanism

  • Perform calculations necessary for dosage form preparation and compounds the dosage forms

  • Properly compound, label and record doses of investigational drugs dispensed in facility

  • Follow institutional procedures for handling of investigational drugs

  • Act as the unblinded observer in some trials

  • May assist with the provision of education on the unit and within the hospital; The intern will be required to work a minimum of one evening per week, every other weekend, holidays on a rotational basis in the same manner as other staff, and will be routinely assigned to day and evening shifts; Students may work up to full-time during school breaks

  • Utilize Drugdex, Poisindex, Micromedex and Medline, as appropriate to answer drug information and medication overdose information

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Currently enrolled in a ACPE School of Pharmacy and has completed the first professional year

  • Registered as a pharmacy intern in the state of Montana

  • Required upon hire: Valid Montana State Driver's License, motor vehicle record, and current insurance

  • Knowledgeable in drug therapy principles for all age groups - pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric
