Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Distribution Automation Technician will assist pharmacists in the acquisition, preparation, and distribution of medications in treating the patients under the University Hospital system of care. The duties may include but are not limited to the following responsibilities: packaging and labeling of medications, operation of pharmacy information systems, delivery of medications via a delivery cart to patient care areas including operation of the PYXIS automation, and general support to pharmacists in delivering pharmaceutical care to all patient populations (i.e., neonate, infant, child, adult, and geriatric). May also periodically or routinely serve as a medicine technician to assist nursing in the acquisition of medications from PYXIS.

Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Graduate of ASHP accredited program or State accredited Pharmacy Technology School preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

Pharmacy Technician Certification as recognized by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and State of Georgia Pharmacy Technician Registration or licensure in the state of Georgia as a Pharmacy Intern.

Experience:

One (1) year experience of hospital technician work is required to include broad experience in unit dose drug distribution and IV admixtures. Graduate of ASHP accredited program or State accredited Pharmacy Technology School may be substituted for one (1) year work experience.

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

Individual should be able to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.

Must be able to perform basic computer tasks in generating reports and adjusting patient medication billing accounts.

Reading comprehension and visual skills must be sufficient to see and interpret drug orders, reports or other written forms of communication.

Must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and problem solve.

Individual should possess a basic knowledge of various drug products, pharmaceutical laws, and drug distribution.

Must possess a philosophy of health care service consistent with that of the mission of University Hospital.

Physical Demands:

Ability to move throughout the hospital to accomplish duties. Visual ability to see & read records, reports, or computer terminals.

Manual dexterity to enter data and retrieve data from computers or related information systems. Ability to communicate verbally. Ability to move moderately heavy objects (i.e., IV fluids, drug carts, supplies, equipment, etc.).

The Multi-Skilled Tech CNA is responsible to the Nursing Director/Charge Nurse for the delivery of quality patient care utilizing the nursing process. Apply your nursing knowledge derived from education and experience as foundation for patient care, communication, and documentation on the unit. Essential Core Functions: The Multi-Skilled Tech - CNA performs any combination of following duties in care of patients under the direct supervision or delegation of nursing and medical staff: answers call lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs and fulfills them when applicable. Obtains and administers bed side report. Completes VS and all delegated tasks associated with them: Records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, pulse oximetry, blood sugars, and food and fluid intake and output as directed, reporting any abnormal findings to nursing STAT. Serves and collects food trays when appropriate. Performs AM/PM care on all patients which includes but not limited to: Oral care, bathing, toileting, dressing, assisting with all meals, supplements and snacks. Assists with ambulation when appropriate and transports patients using wheelchair, wheeled cart/bed, or assists mobile patients with walking on discharge. Drapes patients for examinations and treatments, and remains with patients, performing such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights when applicable. Turns and repositions bedfast patients every 2 hours to prevent bedsores, either alone using a lift or sheet, or with assistance. Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors and answers telephone. Assists with set up and breakdown of patient rooms. Cleans, sterilizes, stores, prepares and issues dressing packets, treatment trays, and other supplies. Dusts and cleans patients' rooms. Qualifications: Education: * An MST must have High School Diploma or equivalent. Licensure/Certifications: * Certified Nursing Assistant Required. * BLS required upon hire.
