JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Tech



Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer satisfaction. Assist the pharmacist in maintaining the clean and orderly appearance of the pharmacy area, prioritizing work, and processing prescription orders in compliance with Federal and State laws, physician orders and company policies and procedures.


Accountable and Reports to: Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist, Staff Pharmacist, Store Director, Asst. Store Director


  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer satisfaction by exhibiting care, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.

  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the associate's designated department or elsewhere in the store.

  • Genuinely thanks each customer and invites them back.

  • Assists customers by: (examples include)

o escorting them to the products they're looking for (when possible)

o securing products that are out of reach

o loading or unloading heavy items

o making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests

o performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.

  • Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, takes all steps required to accurately fill the prescription in compliance with all laws, regulations, physician orders and company policies and procedures regarding the sale of pharmaceuticals.

  • Maintains a professional and friendly manner with all patients when responding to their requests or when necessary referring them to the Pharmacists in accordance with GOT guidelines.

  • Answers the phone promptly and courteously; refers phone requests from physicians, patients, and others which require a pharmacist's knowledge, to the pharmacists.

  • Accepts the written prescription or refill information from patients confirms completeness of patient record and requests missing information as appropriate, and retrieves the patient's pharmacy record(s) for verification by the pharmacists.

  • Applies basic prescription reading skills to the written prescription upon data entry. Basic prescription reading skills include: dosage form differentiation, directions, pharmacy calculations and product recognition.

  • Accesses the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient record (on both cash and third party prescriptions) and verifies third party parameters.

  • Accurately inputs, accesses, processes, and retrieves data from the pharmacy computer, including speed codes and drug interaction data, as state laws permit.

  • Directs professional inquiries to the pharmacist.

  • Where allowed by law, informs the patient of the availability of generic alternative products.

  • Maintains proper organization of product in each bay and at each counter in regards to established company procedures.

  • Maintains the clean appearance of the pharmacy area.

  • Replenishes pharmacy supply of vials, bottles, bags, and other supplies.

  • Fills pharmacy product orders, to specific bay locations where state law allows.

  • Operates patient sales register by processing individual patient purchases over the scanner or utilizing a scan gun; accurately reads and records prices for items which will not scan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Champions Company and Division customer service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals. Handles customer relations in a positive manner, including effective resolution of customer complaints. Promotes Albertson's philosophy of personalized service. * Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques. * Performs receiving, store, pricing, stocking and merchandising duties. * Builds effective promotional displays and endcaps. * Assists the Drug/General Merchandise Department Manager with ordering, sales and merchandising functions. * Rotates products in compliance with Company code dating policies. Faces products and keeps shelves clean. Prevents shrink and sale of out of code products. * Responsible for performing all job duties accurately, safely and with honesty and integrity. * Performs other duties as assigned and necessary. PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must be friendly and courteous. Must take initiative and maintain composure in dealing with customers, co-workers and vendors as well have the ability to concentrate and deal with interruptions and customer complaints. * Ability to cooperate with others and work as part of a team. * Must work with job aids such as safety cutters and cleaning chemicals. * Must stand and walk for long periods of time. Frequently reaches, lifts, stacks and maneuvers objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 80 lbs. May push or pull fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheel carts or pallet jacks. May climb ladders. Utilizes safety cutters and cleaning supplies. * Mental alertness is required to ensure safe, accurate completion of work activities and to do repetitious work accurately. * May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours will vary. Regular attendance is required. * Must comply with Company policies including grooming standards and dress code. WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Exposure to cleaning chemicals. * Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment. Exposure to varying temperatures while working in the loading and receiving area. Occasional exposure to outdoor environment with varying temperatures.
