Learn more at focalpointchicago.org. Position Purpose: To provide efficient and accurate preparation and dispensing of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. To review and monitor the medication therapy of patients. To supervise the work of pharmacy support personnel. Essential Functions: Dispense medications according to hospital and departmental policies while adhering to all state and federal laws. Evaluates and monitors all medication orders, and reviews medication profiles to: prevent drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug-laboratory interactions; avoid allergic reactions to medications; ensure the correctness of the dosing of medications based upon patient specific parameters; promote selections of the best and most cost-effective medications that attain the desired therapeutic outcomes. Provides drug information to all health care professional upon request. Provides patient education on the use of certain high-risk medications. Directs the activities of pharmacy support personnel. Prepares sterile products using appropriate aseptic technique. Ensures proper receipt, storage and record keeping of all controlled substances. Directs the distribution of all floor stock orders, emergency trays / boxes and cardiopulmonary resuscitation carts. General Job requirements: Able to calculate appropriate medication dosages based upon pharmacokinetic parameters. Able to identify significant drug interactions Able to work well with employees and patients of varying ethnic backgrounds One to two year hospital pharmacy experience is preferred Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D.
