Position Summary

Pharmacist IS Specialist II - The Pharmacist IS Specialist role uses knowledge of information technology (IT) systems and medication-use processes to improve patient care by supporting technologies that lead to safer, more cost effective medication use across ECU Health. This role includes automation and technology systems management, clinical information systems, pharmacy computer systems, and training and education. This role supports multiple stakeholders as the resource for advanced requests related to pharmacy and medication use system changes. Completion of these requests requires an in depth understanding of operations and data analytics skills to ensure solutions meet the needs of the organization. This role routinely leverages knowledge of pharmacy practice, pharmacy automation, clinical information systems, and pharmacy computer systems working in concert with the Manager of Pharmacy Applications.

Responsibilities

This position is part of the Pharmacy IS Applications team that supports:

  • Primary support for (9) hospitals for all Pharmacies/Satellites and VMG clinics for primary support of medication build/maintenance tied to the following Epic Modules:

  • Epic Willow Inpatient (Build/Maintenance of Medications, (8) Main Formularies, Pharmacy Verification and Dispensing, Medication Charging)

  • Epic Beacon Oncology (Build/Maintenance of oncology protocol medications for patient chemo treatment plans (adult and pediatric)

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy registered/licensed with the North Carolina State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Completion of PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency

  • Residency training in inpatient pharmacy practice, drug information or inpatient pharmacy administration or equivalent experience required

  • Health Informatics, Medical Informatics, or related informatics certification preferred

  • 4+ years of Information Technology/Clinical Systems experience preferred

  • 6+ years of experience involving pharmacy practice, drug information or pharmacy administration

  • Operational knowledge of healthcare areas such as nursing, perioperative services, emergency department and support services

  • Provides moderate to complex qualitative and quantitative analysis on data and information as part of medication requirements gathering prior to build.

  • Advanced experience leading the management of clinical knowledge databases guideline compliance rules and decision support toolsets

  • Leverages pharmacy practice experience to create and manage a complex formulary and resulting impact of changes to downstream ancillary systems across the multi-site healthcare environment

  • Obtains and/or maintains current certification from the vendor and continued education/learning to understand the functionality of the electronic health record.

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite knowledge and/or experience

  • Experience with IT best practices (build tracking, change management, end user testing and/or integrated testing, mock live, go-live support, and transition to support).

  • Able to work in a dynamically changing environment with competing priorities.

  • Ability to communicate clinical concepts to technical team and system design concepts to end users.

  • Ability to effectively validate and support clinical applications

  • Independently motivated to seek knowledge through self education, mentoring, etc. in areas pertaining to their current position
