Job Summary RWDSU LOCAL 200 MEMBERS
Provides pharmaceutical care to Inpatient Pharmacy Services. Supervises the performance of
pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students in the pharmacy setting. Provides daily communication
with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, to provide comprehensive patient care.
Typical Duties
operation including main inpatient medication order verifications, automated device filling
checklists, sterile compounding, manufacturing, duties in Chemo Pharmacy and Operating
Room (OR) Pharmacy, if applicable
Rotates among scheduled assignments
Identifies and resolves problems with personnel, services, or equipment relating computerized
systems
inappropriateness and patient safety
current with the appropriate State Law & Regulations
and in other work areas
hospital personnel, e.g., CE, Annual Training, Quality Assurance, Hospital and Departmental
Programs
confirms computerized within the department; addresses problems encountered in their daily
operation

Carries out stock requisitions for storage areas, as needed
Receives and accounts for drugs and their proper storage; prepares and maintains the
appropriate records that are required by Federal and State Laws and CCHHS policies
Attends seminars, professional settings, and participates in educational programs, as needed
Supervises pharmacy students or volunteers, as needed
Reads, interprets, evaluates, compounds or dispenses medication orders for patients including
sterile products and controlled substances, in accordance with laws and regulations
Provides input on the preparation of the annual budget, as requested
Duties may vary based on area of assignment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be licensed as a pharmacist in good standing in the State of Illinois - (Must provide official license at time of interview).
Graduation from a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education or equivalent (Must provide official transcript at time of interview).
Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
Previous experience with computerized physician order entry (CPOE) including basic knowledge and maintenance, PC-based word processing and Pyxis application
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Laws, and pharmaceutical entities available in the U.S. market and their proper nomenclatures
Evaluation (DUE), and Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting systems
Dexterity to manipulate drugs and containers and labeling
Skill to compound and package medicines
Skill to use computer keyboard for prescriptions entry and to use typewriter, typing twenty-five
(25) word per minute accurately
Ability and skill to communicate with a wide variety of individuals or groups
Ability and skill to maintain accurate records, perform within reasonably established standards
of accuracy within the department

Physical dexterity and mental alertness
Ability to work under tension and at times under crowded conditions
Ability to walk and stand prolonged periods
Ability to maintain composure when dealing with patients who may be irritable and in discomfort
Ability to lift heavy objects; eyesight must be correctable to provide visual acuity of reading

Ability to work various shifts
Willingness and ability to work other stations, and perform additional work assigned by
management
Physical and Environmental Demands
This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for
adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited
to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment
requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering
and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide
policy and departmental procedures.
