POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position reports directly to the Healthcare Manager. The PIC provides prescription product and appropriate service and consultation to every customer, including appropriate clinical services. The Pharmacist-in-Charge manages and supervises the pharmacy staff including: staff pharmacists, pharmacy interns/externs, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy associates. The PIC also ensures that that the pharmacy is in compliance with any and all federal and state laws, rules and regulation and to ensure FRED'S policies and procedures are followed by all pharmacy team members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive pharmacy sales results by ensuring pharmacy team members provide a consistent high quality customer/patient experience.

  • Responsible for the operations and oversight of all matters occurring within the pharmacy.

  • Ensures that all pharmacy and employee licenses, certificates and paperwork are up-to- date and kept in employee personnel files.

  • Accept final accountability for all actions, decisions, and results of the pharmacy, including accountability for failed audits or high shrink and/or violation of applicable laws.

  • Recruit, interview, hire, develop, direct and train pharmacy team members to deliver the required performance objectives. As part of this, the PIC has the authority to hire, discipline, evaluate, counsel, guide, train, direct, supervise, promote and terminate pharmacy team members as needed.

  • Ensure all paperwork, reports, new employee paperwork, etc. are timely completed and ensure that team members receive handbooks.

  • Administer the performance management process, including annual reviews, merit increases, demotions and appropriate corrective action to all team members. .

  • Plan, control and follow the pharmacy payroll budget to meet or exceed expectations.

  • Create weekly schedules for team members and modifying those schedules, in the PIC's sole discretion, to meet pharmacy demands and to manage expenses.

  • Promote safe work practices by all team members and provide a safe environment for team members and customers/patients.

  • Ensure adherence to applicable laws, including, without limitation, wage and hour and equal employment opportunity laws, for hourly team members.

  • Solicit and observe customer feedback to understand customer needs and the needs of the local community.

  • Handle and process employee and customer complaints and grievances and use independent judgment and discretion to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Planning and directing the objectives, procedures and activities for the pharmacy.

  • Takes all steps required to fill prescriptions and operate a pharmacy in compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.

  • Assists with and respond in a courteous and professional manner to questions from customers, physicians, and vendors.

  • Offers advice and professional consultation; acts as a role model to the pharmacy team; efficiently handles customer complaints; and directs pharmacy operations to keep wait times to a minimum.

  • Manage medication and medical supply inventories.

  • Administer immunizations and perform clinical services including but not limited to MTM platforms and adherence programs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisors.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to readily adapt to changes in schedule specifications and work priorities as the business and customer needs demand.

  • Computer literate and comfortable with assorted software programs.

  • Responsiveness, reliability, ability to express assurance/confidence, ability to express empathy, professionalism.

  • PC skills in Windows-based applications.

  • Advanced verbal/written communication skill.

  • Team-oriented & customer service focus.

  • Ability to identify process improvements, self-directed, and practical application of knowledge and skills learned in training.

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  • A graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science or PharmD degree

  • Must maintain a valid pharmacy license in the state in which you are practicing.

  • Successful completion of APHA approved Immunization Training Course

  • Maintain a valid CPR certification

  • Minimum of two years prior pharmacist experience is preferred.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Individuals may need to stand for excessive amounts of time. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting product or moving materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. May on occasion include lifting up to 50 pounds for materials, samples, reports, etc.

Travel requirements of this position include; local, domestic travel on occasions to attend training sessions and review marketplace conditions.

Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical retail pharmacy environment.

Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management and enhance customer experience. Job Responsibilities/Tasks * Customer Experience * Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. * Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.). * Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers by anticipating customer needs and proactively offering services. Supports efforts on enhancing customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services (e.g. patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, and perform retail, clinical, or wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness) thereby promoting the shift of the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal. * Participates and assists in community events as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, District Manager or Pharmacy Manager. * Operations * Counsels patients and answers their questions regarding usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, less expensive medicines, over-the-counter products, and refers to medical provider as needed to ensure medication is taken correctly, health needs addressed, and satisfaction with service. * Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
