PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Responsible for overseeing all procurement, receipt, medication storage, medication security, preparation, and distribution of clinic-administered medications. Direct the daily operations of the Distribution Center pharmacy operations in accordance with current state, federal, and local legal requirements, as well as provide pharmacy services consistent with all applicable policies, procedures, and safeguarding patient safety.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for reviewing, interpreting and verifying all prescription order entry performed by pharmacy staff. Identify any inconsistencies and initiate appropriate action.

  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, and security of controlled substances.

  • Monitor drug therapies for drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications.

  • In coordination with Regulatory Affairs, obtain all licenses required within states and display licenses in appropriate place according to individual state license requirements.

  • Must be willing to secure jurisprudence in individual states which require separate Pharmacist licenses before granting reciprocity with their state on an as needed basis.

  • Maintain all required files to include: prescription files, physician files, patient files, and patient profiles.

  • Cooperation with Distribution Center pharmacists, transportation, and distribution operations, as well as State Boards of Pharmacy as directed by regulatory affairs.

  • Provide clinical consultations to internal personnel regarding medication for drug interactions, side effects, dosage and ensure the appropriate storage and security of medicinal products and supplies to ensure purity, freshness, and potency.

  • Interact with all staff to ensure quality of the daily operation and participate in pharmacy meetings and committees.

  • Keep up with all current pharmacy practices and new drugs by participating in continuing education programs as required by each state board of pharmacy. Keep up with all company regulatory standards and policies.

  • Provide reports daily, monthly, semiannually and annually as needed including state required drug monitoring programs through the Regulatory Affairs Department.

  • Provide documented orientation and training for different departmental staff. Provide review and evaluation of staff if needed.

  • Provide training to staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • Ensure all pharmacy staff is current on required licensure and certifications.

  • Responsible for assessing new hires during the recruitment process. Directly responsible for the hiring of al direct report employees.

  • Experienced leadership required for multi-faceted environment; role primarily focuses on tactical execution. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.

  • Interacts with internal departments and external customers; particularly in problem resolution. Acts as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Responsible for hiring, coaching and counseling employees, including performance reviews, disciplinary action and terminations.

  • Assist with various projects as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:

  • May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Pharmacy staff.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Advanced Degree desirable

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 6 - 8 years' related experience.

  • 3+ years' supervisory or project/program management experience preferred.

  • Valid state registered pharmacist license.

  • Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of pharmacy laws for Rx drugs & devices.
