It is the responsibility of the Pharmacist to accurately review and interpret medication orders, and review patient profiles for appropriate medication usage, allergies, and potential interactions. The Pharmacist will efficiently and accurately perform other professional duties including procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution, and maintenance of the security of medications per requirements of facility policies and regulatory agencies. Dominion Hospital expects the Pharmacist to perform and appropriately document clinical interventions, assist with training and education of staff, and support the policies, procedures, and goals of the Pharmacy Department and the facility.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintains strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and dispenses medications accordingly.

  • Participates in implementing goals, objectives, and policies and procedures of the pharmacy department and the facility.

  • Effectively manages own professional practice including time and space, professional ethics, continuing education, computer literacy, reliable attendance, and punctuality.

  • Effectively supports the management team and assists with orientation and training of new pharmacists

  • Evaluates medication orders for completeness, safety, and accuracy, and consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding medications, interactions, errors, and adverse reactions.

  • Focuses on customer service.

  • Coordinates the delivery of clinical pharmaceutical care to assigned areas.

  • Assists in the supervision and training of pharmacy technician personnel.

  • Maintains knowledge pertaining to facility utilization of automated dispensing processes including the use of automated dispensing cabinets and software systems, over wrap packaging, and medication barcoding.

  • Effectively and accurately provides education or in-services on rational medication therapy and medication procedures to healthcare professionals, students, patients, or the public as needed.

  • Retrieves, analyzes, evaluates and interprets scientific literature in order to provide accurate, concise, applicable, and timely drug information to healthcare professionals.

  • Manages systems for storage, preparation and dispensing of medicinal agents using appropriate techniques while following the health systems policies.

  • Safely compounds medications in acceptable dosage forms, appropriately packages and dispenses pre-manufactured dosage forms

  • Collaborates with all individuals involved in the medication use process as appropriate

  • Responsible for planning, organizing, networking, completing and improving work activities through effective management of time, tasks, and available resources.

  • Assists with quality improvement initiatives, inventory control, medication formulary compliance, and ordering of pharmaceuticals.

  • Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patients in performance of duties and responsibilities

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

  • Is compliant with required classes and vaccinations by CMC; i.e., Code of Conduct, influenza vaccine and TB skin tests.

  • Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting with monthly inspections, and fulfilling additional pharmacy staffing hours when needed

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
