Position Summary:

The goal of the Pharmacist is toachieve a high level of pharmaceutical care for the medical staff, nursingstaff, and patients while fostering appropriate, cost- effective healthcare. Tobring all departmental employees to a higher level of clinical involvement andunderstanding.

Essential Duties:

  • Interpret orders and transcribes orverifies them accurately and efficiently into the pharmacy computer system

  • Accurately compound and dispensepharmaceuticals

  • Complies with facility policy andprocedures and regulatory requirements

  • Monitor drug therapy regimens forcontraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergiesand appropriateness of drug and dose

  • Suggests appropriate, cost-effectivetherapeutic medication alternatives to medical staff

  • Sustain the hospital formulary,minimizing nonformulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges andpromotes rational drug therapy selection

  • Provide accurate and timely medicationinformation to healthcare staff and patients

  • Assist with clinical services such asdrug consults, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulant monitoring,pain management, IV to PO, renal dosing and other programs as defined byPharmacy Leadership.

  • Assist with the antimicrobialmanagement and other clinical programs

  • Document all clinical activities andinterventions accurately and completely

  • Supportand participate in the goals of the organization's quality improvement, riskmanagement and patient safety program to include but not limited to NationalPatient Safety Goals, Core Measures and HCAHPS medication related initiatives.

  • Complete notification reports regardingmedication errors and adverse drug reactions

  • Participate in the training of newpharmacists, pharmacy students, and technicians

  • Maintain professional competencysufficient to meet current and future needs of the facility

  • Has knowledge of the patient populationserved and apply that knowledge in the care of those patients

  • Provide basic technical support forautomated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems

  • Effectively supervise pharmacyoperation activities and provides support to the whole pharmacy team Compliantwith facility pharmacy schedule to work physically at patient care areas tointeract with medical staff, nurses and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Effectively and proactively intervenein conflicts between pharmacy and medical staff regarding drug therapy issueresolutions.

  • Maintain appropriate controlledsubstance records

  • Comply with all regulatory standards

  • Prioritize work and lead others tocomply with facility medication turn-around time policy and procedure. Identifyareas for improved efficiency

  • Supervise and assist pharmacy techniciansand other support staff effectively

  • Act as supervisor in charge as assigned

  • Participate in the continuous qualityimprovement of pharmacy operations (operational/clinical)

  • Provide input for improving pharmacy computer system programs relating to pharmacy, nursing and physicianprograms

  • Practice and adhere to the " Code ofConduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement"

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Mustbe a graduate of an accredited school or college of Pharmacy
  • A Pharm-D degree is preferred, however a combination of BS degree anddemonstrated clinical work experience is also acceptable
  • A Pharmacy Residency is preferred


  • An active State of Georgia issued Pharmacist license is required


  • Atleast one year of relevant clinical experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred
