To provide professional skills in the distribution of drugs and in clinical services offered to patients and staff.
Interprets physician's orders for medications and ensures therapy is appropriate for patient's diagnosis, weight, and age.
Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications per physician's orders in all patient care areas in accordance with departmental and applicable laws.
Detects, prevents, evaluates, and reports, when necessary, Adverse Drug Events.
Maintains patient medication profiles and develops patient care plans.
Counsels patients receiving medications.
Provides drug information to members of the health care team.
May supervise the activities of support personnel.
May assist in the training and development of newly employed departmental staff.
May serve as preceptor to technicians, pharmacy students, residents, and extended-interns.
May participate in pharmaceutical continuing education, in accordance with departmental performance standards.
May conduct/participate in research activities to include publishing findings in professional journals.
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy.
Current licensure from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
Infusion pharmacy experience.
Experience with computerized systems.
Experience in the provision of basic clinical services desirable.
