What You Will Achieve
As an Associate Scientist in the Cellular, Genomic, and Protein Sciences (CGPS) department, you will be at the center of our protein expression and purification operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality and serving patients.
You will be part of the team responsible for recombinant protein expression in E.coli, insect cells, and mammalian cells to support hit discovery for new targets in the Pfizer portfolio. In addition, you will be responsible for the generation of high quality modified mRNA, and will routinely access laboratory automation to enable high throughput expression testing.
How You Will Achieve It
Perform recombinant protein expressions in bacteria, insect cells, and mammalian cells.
Produce high quality mRNA
Perform expression testing of recombinant protein expressions to help scientist choose the best conditions for the highest protein yields.
With guidance, troubleshoot protein expressions.
Prepare reports and document experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks.
Update internal tracking tools
Qualifications
Must-Have
BA/BS in a life science field, or no degree and 3+ years of laboratory experience.
Phage, yeast, or mRNA library generation and display experience for generation of binding partners, or improvement of protein characteristics.
Basic knowledge of plasmid cloning/subcloning
Experience in protein expression in bacterial, insect, and mammalian cells.
Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working in a highly collaborative environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Nice-to-Have
Experience producing modified mRNA
Scientific programming or data analysis skills
Knowledge around automation for protein purification or analyses.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and walking.
Ability to perform practical laboratory bench work and work on a computer (while standing or sitting).
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret data.
Must be able to regularly lift >30 pounds.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Minimal, if any travel related to this position. Candidate may periodically be asked to travel to other Pfizer sites to give presentations or attend meetings.
Candidate must comply with laboratory safety practices.
Occasional weekend hours may be necessary.

On Premise colleagues work in a Pfizer site because it's needed to get their job done. They may have flexibility to work remotely from time to time, but they are primarily on-site.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $54,700.00 to $91,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
