Job Responsibilities

Our PET/CT Technologists use exceptional communication skills to connect with patients, explain the procedure and put them at ease. With a caring attitude and keen attention to detail, they ensure patient comfort, safety and satisfaction every step of the way. They show their technical competence by effectively interpreting physician orders/instructions and selecting appropriate software options and imaging parameters to produce the highest-quality PET/CT images/studies possibleenabling physicians to diagnose with pinpoint accuracy and treat with confidence. And, because our techs work in a variety of environmentsa freestanding outpatient center, a mobile coach, or a hospital-based/inpatient facilitytheir flexibility allows them to deliver the absolute best imaging care at any access point.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for patient safety including pre-screening for contraindications, aseptic injection technique, etc. and radiation safety/regulations, including proper documentation and technique when working with radioactive materials/patients.

  • Produces high quality diagnostic images.

  • Effectively communicates with customers and/or radiologists.

  • Trains new technologists and/or PC's.

  • Trouble-shoots the scanner, coach and peripheral equipment (including: monitors, PACS, coils, etc.).

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required; Associate's Degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Certification in Nuclear Medicine by the NMTCB or ARRT (N) required.

  • State license, as required.

  • CPR certification required.

  • As applicable, valid state driver's license required.

  • 1-2 years PET imaging experience or 1-2 years' experience in Nuclear Medicine procedures and studies preferred.

  • Local travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients if working on a mobile unit. The employee will be exposed to radioactive isotopes and ionizing radiation. May be exposed to radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

  • More than 50% of the time:

  • Sit, stand, walk.

  • Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs.

  • See, speak and hear to be able to communicate with patients.

  • Less than 50% of the time:

  • Stoop, kneel or crawl.

  • Climb and balance.

  • Carry and lift (ability to move non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to exam).

Position Summary Maintains imaging equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Program and HCT business standards. Performs assigned maintenance, installation, repairs, adjustments, troubleshooting, and calibration on a broad range of complex imaging equipment. May participate in the evaluation and selection of new equipment, accessories, and supplies. Coordinates special projects and performs technical tasks. Provides technical guidance to other ISE I or ISE II employees in the department. Adheres to instructions and corporate policies, and demonstrates professionalism with integrity in all interactions with customers and staff. Essential Functions Leadership * Serves as a resource and provides technical guidance, mentoring, and assistance to other employees in the department. * Conducts departmental rounds throughout the medical facility and provides consistent feedback to user departments on the status of repairs and other maintenance activities. * Demonstrates exceptional customer service, while interacting effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care community. * Conducts cross training in the techniques of testing, calibrating, operating and troubleshooting biomedical systems for less experienced BMET's. * Serves as a reference source for clinical engineering and clinical staff with regards to appropriate procedures for the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment. * Works with sales and service representatives of biomedical equipment. * Serves as a member or advisor to the hospital's Risk Management, EOC (Environment of Care) and/or other appropriate committees, as needed. * Services as project leader for small technical projects within the hospital. * Provides technical support (via telephone or on-site) to other engineers. * Leads conversations with the client dealing with escalated service events. Service * Performs assigned duties in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and other established policies and procedures, including scheduled maintenance, equipment inspection, repairs, adjustments, calibrations and safety testing of more complex classes of imaging equipment, including CT and MRI. * Assists with the administrative responsibilities of the department, including work order control, maintenance history records, SM and safety inspection requests and repair parts inventory records. * Possesses knowledge of electrical safety theory, and performs repairs and electrical safety testing on biomedical instrumentation. * Provides strong verbal/written communications consistent with assigned tasks. * Establishes and maintains supporting technical literature. * Assists in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories and supplies, and orders parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of laboratory equipment. * Uses office automation hardware, software and diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced. * Services networked equipment, such as DICOM and PACS, and troubleshoots the root cause of problems. * Investigates safety issues, hazards and equipment incidents. Education & Experience * Associate's degree in electronic or engineering technology and 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment. OR * 7-9 years military training, or other experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment. * Active CRES Certification is preferred. * Working familiarity with all current accreditation standards such as TJC, DNV, or others preferred. * Extensive knowledge of radiation physics, digital technology and mechanics. * Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to imaging equipment and radiation safety, and protection practices. * Extensive knowledge of imaging performance based on regulations, manufacturing practices and institutional requirements. Equipment * Should have a working knowledge of more complex general biomedical safety and repair equipment, such as imaging phantoms, HV bleeders, and attenuation devices. Travel & Other Requirements * Valid Driver's License may be required. * Up to 30% of day-to-day work may be spent traveling. * May be required to work flexible hours, including on-call and overtime.
