Summary
Applies chemical pesticides to control insects or weed infestations in parks and other identified areas.
Essential Functions
Spray herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides using truck mounted and/or hand held spray equipment as required;
Document application rates, times, locations, type of chemicals, and other relevant information;
Maintain and clean equipment;
Ensure that chemical applications are made in a safe manner and are
confined to the immediate area requiring treatment;
Observe and follow safety procedures for spray work conducted on street medians;
Pick up litter and debris on streets and highways;
Performs related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year experience in weed and pest control. Possess a Certified Non-Commerical Applicator license issued by the Texas Structural Pest Control Board in categories of "weeds" and "lawn and ornamental"; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Physical exam required
Valid Commercial Driver's License
Cert. Non-Commerical Applicator
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Chemical control measures required to treat weed or insect infestations;
Proper methods for handling and control of chemicals and equipment;
Knowledge of weed treatments in turf and flowerbeds.
Ability to:
Maintain accurate records;
Perform duties of pesticide application;
Communicate effectively with others
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Frequently walk and stand on uneven ground during a shift
Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, poles and other inclined surfaces
Occasionally bend during the shift
Occasionally push and pull objects
Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
Occasionally place arms above, at or below shoulder height
Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
Occasionally carry up to 4 gallons of liquid (approx 32 pounds) in a backpack
