POSITION GOAL

To schedule and oversee the work in applying chemicals to maintain various types of grass/turf in a good condition.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Certified Pest Control Operator shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.

• Determine types and quantities of weed and pest control materials to be used and instruct other personnel in mixing and application techniques.

• Requisition and/or special order control materials. • Verify that materials are used, and procedures are followed correctly.

• Notify school officials of control activities and initiate the placing of barricades, as necessary.

• Load and unload from trucks fertilizers, chemicals, tractors and spreading equipment, machines, materials and other items used in the care and maintenance of lawns and athletic fields in the Broward County School District.

• Mix proper amount of fertilizers and weed and pest control materials and fill spreaders; set controls to dispense materials as labeled.

• Operate mobile, push and hand spreaders to dispense wet or dry control materials with labeled amounts.

• Apply control materials along fence lines and around bike racks, baseball backstops, etc. to eliminate and control weeds, fungi, fire ants and other insects.

• Inspect, clean, lubricate and make minor repairs to equipment and maintain proper oil levels in motorized equipment.

• Record usage of all materials dispensed. • Dispose of empty containers and unusable chemicals in accordance with label directions.

• Be responsible for the work of pest and weed control applicators, apprentices and laborers as assigned.

• Inform supervisor of needed supplies.

• Operate School Board owned vehicle in a safe manner and assume responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle.

• Complete all projects in a competent workmanlike manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.

• Perform all duties which require extensive physical effort such as climbing, lifting of over 25 up to 60 pounds, pulling, etc.

• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.

• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.

• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.

• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.

• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.

• Experience in handling, applying, purchasing, storage and disposal of classified chemicals.

• Must have valid current certificate as Certified Pest Control Operator (CPCO).

• Ability to assume responsibility and instruct other operators in the proper application of turf chemicals.

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

• Ability to work well with others. Must provide own hand tools.

• Willing to work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as required.

• Must have ability to assume responsibility and complete tasks without assistance.

• Must have a valid Florida driver's license and, if essential to perform certain duties of the position, a proper Florida Class A or B Commercial driver's license with endorsement is required.

• This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

• Computer skills as required for the position.
