The Pest Controller sprays chemical solutions or toxic gases and sets mechanical traps to kill pests that infest buildings and surrounding areas, fumigates rooms and buildings using toxic gases, sprays chemical solutions or dusts powders in rooms and work areas, places poisonous paste or bait and mechanical traps where pests are present; may clean areas that harbor pests, using rakes, brooms, shovels, and mops preparatory to fumigating.

Responsibilities

• Provides detection and treatment services to control structural pests, pest found in and around buildings, public health pests, turf and ornamental pests, and vertebrate pests.

• Fumigates rooms and buildings using toxic gases.

• Sprays chemical solutions or dusts powders in rooms, Buildings, Parks, Athletic Fields, and other places that harbor pests.

• Places poisonous paste or bait; and mechanical traps where pests are present.

• Clean areas that harbor pests, using rakes, brooms, shovels, and mops in preparation to fumigating.

• Applies pesticides and herbicides to areas as needed.

• Performs preventive measures limiting conditions for pests; monitors pest populations; and uses physical, mechanical, cultural, biological, or educational control tactic measures before using pesticides.

• Provides wild animal control.

• Ensures base facilities are free from termites.

• Applies treatments for health-related pests and structural pests.

• Traps feral dogs and cats.

• Ensures work orders when complete are properly filled out and returned to work management

• Supports the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills.

• This position has been designated as Mission Critical. Mission-critical personnel are defined as those required to meet the Installation's safety (including inclement weather) and security needs during lockdown conditions.

• This position may be part of an emergency management/response team as required by the company to meet contract requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent;

• Completion of technical courses in service, trade, or craft.

• Journeyman credentials through an accredited apprenticeship, trade school, or training program must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology used to control pests and weeds.

• Knowledge of the use and characteristics of pesticides.

• Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work.

• Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to apply pesticides chemicals in accordance with established regulations.

• Ability to read, understand and follow chemical label instructions.

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to estimate materials and time needed to complete task.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

• Ability to communicate with a diverse population.

• Skilled in the use of tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks.

• Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office to track job activities data.

• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
