Under the supervision of the director and in accordance with the mission, character development and values of the YMCA, the Personal Trainer trains YMCA members and community participants on strength training equipment, free weights and cardiovascular equipment on a one to one basis or small group training. The Personal Trainer is also responsible for informing and serving YMCA members and volunteers in a premier fashion. He or she is expected to emphasize member service, character development, the mission statement and to work with membership retention and promotion.


  • Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.

  • Work one-on-one (or small groups) with members and community participants.

  • Maintain safety by following YMCA and national certification guidelines.

  • Maintain attendance records and reports.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the wellness area.

  • Be a team player with all staff.

  • Must notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately.

  • Must participate in special events.

  • Participate in annual fundraising campaign.


  • 18 years of age or older.

  • Associate's degree in health related field of study, or equivalent.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • National accredited certification in Personal Training or related area.

  • Current First Aid & CPR.

  • Current license (as needed).

  • Able to relate to people on all levels in a friendly and consistent manner.

  • Able to reflect a positive attitude.

You will prepare lesson plans including methods, materials and documentation to be presented. You will revise, modify and develop course content to address current solution features, functions and workflow to address client needs. Also, evaluate learning solution effectiveness using best practice methodologies aligned with performance and business outcomes. Conduct training and classroom-based coaching onsite and in virtual environments as needed to build motivation and ability. You will consult with and coordinate between Cerner and client project leaders to identify capability gaps impacting current and future business strategies. Additional Information Applicants for U.S.-based positions with Cerner must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Due to specific client contract requirements, this position requires that the successful candidate be a U.S. citizen. The client contract also requires receipt of the appropriate government security clearance card applicable for the position. Some Cerner positions may be obligated to comply with client-facing requirements and occupational health requests, including but not limited to, an immunization set, an annual flu shot, an annual TB screen, an updated background check, and/or an updated drug screen. Qualifications Basic Qualifications * Receipt of the appropriate government security clearance card applicable for your position * Due to the client contract you will be assigned, this position requires you to be a U.S. citizen * At least 5 years total combined higher education and related work experience * 1 year Learning/adult education, project/program management, health care information technology (HCIT) consulting and/or other client-facing or HCIT solution work experience * 4 years higher education and/or additional work experience directly related to the job including: * Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Education, or Healthcare, or related field Expectations: * Willing to travel up to 10% as needed * Must live within 60 miles of a major international airport * Successful completion of the Consulting Academy training program and Federal Train the Trainer (TtT) program * Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed and allowed by local regulations * Work in accordance with corporate and organizational security policies and procedures, understand personal role in safeguarding corporate and client assets, and take appropriate action to prevent and report any compromises of security within scope of position * Perform other responsibilities as assigned Cerner North Kansas City MO
