The Permit Specialist is key member of the New Homes Team in Raleigh. The Permit Specialist will be the primary point of contact for permits with Homes Builder Services, Construction Management and Delivery Teams as well as other departments as needed.

The Permit Specialist will be responsible for applying for permits with the respective municipalities, managing the full life cycle of the permit process, creating, maintaining and updating reports in a time sensitive environment. This position requires extensive relationship building and management. Additionally, this position requires strong communication skills as external communication (written and verbal) with municipalities, to include city officials, permitting departments, architects and engineers will be a significant portion of the job responsibilities. This person will develop best practices for internal operations and act as the command center for all permitting activities between the sales office and the construction management team to ensure that homes are started and completed in agreed upon time frames. This position reports directly to the Architectural Drafting Manager.


  • Driving the full life cycle of the permit process for new homes construction team to include producing and maintaining schedules for all communities and work with municipalities from approval to final stages of permitting process.

  • Working closely with municipalities on the status of each permit and ensure they are processed in a timely manner, escalate issues as appropriate

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of new permit processes and procedures for effective and efficient team operations.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for permitting services and address calls for most general business issues related to permits; escalate issues as appropriate.

  • Responsible for producing, maintaining and communicating status on permits, inspections, specifications and other schedules as needed in support of full life cycle permit process


  • Reports directly to Architectural Drafting Manager

  • Works closely with municipalities and ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders is critical in this position.

  • Works closely with Homes Builder Services, Construction Management, Sales Operations, New Home Advisors and other departments as needed

  • Supports Building Services, Construction and Sales teams

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $35.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application) This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Information Technology. This position serves as a Clinical Applications and HIE Training Specialist in health care technology in the development and execution of an HIE training program for the NC Health Information Exchange Authority (NC HIEA). The incumbent provides expertise in business and health care processes, spearheads the creation of training materials, and provides direction and oversight of training staff to ensure HIE participants (within health systems, hospitals, clinics and other settings of care) receive timely training on HIE clinical application in order to adequately leverage the statewide HIE network, NC HealthConnex, within their varied daily clinical workflows. Employee ensures the NC HIEA meets training goals and objectives as set forth in its federal and state program funding documents. Employee identifies, investigates, tracks, and resolves program issues and system errors collaboratively with the training contractor and NC HIEA staff. In addition to overseeing the HIE training program, the incumbent acts as a clinical subject matter expert for NC HIEA and its various committees, guiding the clinical design, implementation and maintenance of application and system specifications and processes, and participating in formulating scope and objectives of HIE clinical applications relative to the company's requirements utilizing previous clinical expertise to define, design and modify specifications and processes of information systems. The incumbent acts as a liaison with HIE trainers and HIE participants to proactively garner input from clinical customers and translate that input into specific functional requirements to be implemented into new and existing HIE clinical applications and services. Employee creates clinical application and end-user documentation following applicable department, company industry standards and policies.
