This position requires a valid Class E driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  • three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
  • any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
  • a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
  • a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Coordinate the Utility Permits ensuring compliance with Department procedures, Florida Administrative Code Rules and the Department's Utility Accommodation Manual. This includes, but is not limited to, field related engineering skills, planning, coordinating between customers and other involved parties, processing and administering proper documentation, resolving conflicts and deficiencies, and ensuring all inspections and safety standards are maintained.

Assist and coordinate with the supervisor in the operations of all Access and Drainage Permits ensuring compliance with Department Procedures, Florida Administrative Code Rules and the Department's Utility Accommodation Manual. This includes, but is not limited to, field related engineering skills, planning, coordinating between customers and other involved parties, processing and administering proper documentation, resolving conflicts and deficiencies, and ensuring all inspections and safety standards are maintained.

Assist supervisor to coordinate plans and construction review processes. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with the resurfacing program, attending and representing unit in construction pre-work conference, scope meetings, plans review meetings, construction reviews, walk-throughs, and communicating this information of these processes to others.

Prepares and processes permit related information. This includes, but is not limited to preparing all aspects of permit project inspections in a clear and professional manner, maintaining files, reviewing plans, documenting and organizing items, coordinating meetings, conducting project walk-throughs, and coordinating corrective actions.

Makes routine inspections of permitted sites to ensure work is done safely and in accordance with the permit requirements. This may require reviewing plans, referencing permit documentation, and verifying necessary permits.

Assist in all other miscellaneous permits. These include, but are not limited to, special use, temporary road closure, landscaping, Adopt A Highway, Memorandums of Agreement, Florida Historical Plaques and Monuments, formal Right- of - Way Beautification Projects, and house moving permits. This also requires field related engineering skills, planning, coordinating between customers and other involved parties, processing and administering proper documentation, resolving conflicts and deficiencies, and ensuring all inspections are performed and safety standards are maintained.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the access management requirements, the utility accommodations guide, and the engineering design, drainage and construction of these operations; skills in the use of engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments; knowledge of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet software, and electronic mail; ability to analyze and interpret engineering data; ability to perform technical engineering inspections; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to communicate engineering information effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; skills in speaking, negotiation and dealing with the public and contractors.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Class E Driver License. Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
