WSP is currently initiating a search for a Resident Engineer for our Valhalla, New York office. The following locations will also be considered: Brooklyn, NY. Your Impact

  • Review and manage large permit construction jobs. Use engineering principles to ensure compliance with construction specifications.

  • Hold pre-construction meeting for all major permit construction work.

  • Hold progress and field meetings as warranted.

  • Manage consultant activity related to major utility permit jobs. Review their inspector reports, weekly look-ahead schedule and project close-outs.

  • Assist in ascertaining availability of State utilities, street and main extension requirements.

  • Oversee public works permits for water and sewer services, right-of-way use, street obstructions, utility installations, and other permits for work within the State's rights-of-way.

  • Serve as back-up to Construction Inspector as time permits.

  • Perform related duties and assist in other areas of engineering as assigned.

  • Write technical reports summarizing inspection findings and conclusions; generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, flow diagrams, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports.

  • Act as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for projects of a moderate/large scope and complexity within a district.

  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for single, multi-phase, or multi-site field inspection activities.

  • Follow standard practices to provide technical assistance and guidance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, materials, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications.

  • Perform an initial check during the first phase of construction and follow-up inspections throughout the construction project; at completion, performs a final, comprehensive inspection and provides written and oral feedback related to their findings.

  • Monitor project phasing plans and contractors' work to ensure quality control and contract compliance; documenting work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.

  • Write technical reports summarizing inspection findings and conclusions; generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, flow diagrams, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports.

  • Engage in contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspection.

  • Actively check jobsite for maintenance and protection of traffic specification adherence.

  • Hold yearly meetings at the start of the construction season with utility companies and their contractors.

  • Hold yearly pre-winter meeting to ensure compliance with winter restrictions with utility companies and their contractors.

  • Remain current in latest inspection and construction knowledge, techniques, and practices.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years' experience in rail, highway and bridge related construction management

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent

  • Specific experience with NYCTA, MNR, LIRR, NYSDOT, MTA Bridges & Tunnels and other agency construction projects that include rails, highways, bridges and utilities.

  • Ability to supervise staff - inspection, safety, quality, project controls.

  • Ability to review/approve shop drawings, contractor schedules, permit and inspection requirements.

  • Ability to work schedules (nights/weekends) conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.

  • Experience with structural steel and concrete repairs.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of Project management software, e.g. ASITE, Site Manager, etc.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • NYS Professional Engineer License preferred, but CCM certification may be accepted

  • BS in Engineering

  • Current NYCTA track safety and PMG 123 certification is a plus

  • Painting (NACE/AMPP) certification is a plus

Expected Salary: $130,300 - $226,100

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
