Under regular supervision, performs routine to moderately complex clerical work in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of building permits and certificates of occupancy. Provides professional customer service. Performs related work as required.
Essential Functions
Prepares, issues and files permits for new housing development.
Prepares, issues and files certificates of occupancy for new housing and commercial development.
Assists customers in completing necessary permit forms.
Prepares, types, copies, files and/or transmits various reports, records, memos, and letters of correspondence.
Answers the telephone; forwards call to appropriate staff person. Greets and assists customers. Provides information as requested concerning department and regulatory procedures.
Contacts inspectors in the field as necessary to relay inspection information/requests.
Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to maintaining logs and file folders, retrieving and/or researching files upon request, copying and filing documents, entering and updating computer data, processing daily mail, faxing information, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, typewriter, printer, adding machine, copier, fax machine, telephone, two-way radio, microfiche, etc.
Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, co-workers, other City personnel, developers, contractors, general public.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires light physical effort that may include lifting up to 10 pounds. Work is most commonly performed indoors or in an office environment.
