This job is responsible for performing a range of self-directed support activities that contribute to the overall efficiency of the perioperative area(s). Work involves inventorying, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, and maintaining operating room equipment. Assisting in maintaining a clean, sanitary, orderly Operating Room environment, and transporting patients as required. Functions as an integral member of the operating room team and contribute to maintaining a safe, professional, respectful and effective patient care environment.
Coordinates patient transport of in house patients as needed in a manner conductive to patient safety and comfort.
Ensures the availability and preparedness of OR rooms, supplies, equipment, and instruments needed to support efficient and effective perioperative processes.
Reads Operating Room schedule, anticipates needs and helps set-up Operating Room for respective cases.
Assists with case cart preparation prior to scheduled time including instrumentation, supplies, positioning aides, and equipment.
Picks cases for next day, checks for availability of needed and specialty items.
Provides proper bed or stretcher for each patient post-operatively.
Checks Operating Room suites for adequate furniture, supplies and equipment, restocking as necessary; removes excess equipment and returns to appropriate location.
Assists with the flow of surgical instrumentation, between Sterile Processing Dept. and surgery.
Cleans and prepares instrumentation for "to follow" case in accordance with correct processing guidelines.
Performs anesthesia machine and cart turn over after each case cleaning, replacing and restocking all necessary equipment and supplies prior to each case.
Performs daily, weekly and monthly monthly checklist as required that consists of essential, ordering, restocking, outdate checks and inventory maintenance.
Maintains an environment which consistently meets all safety, infection control and quality.
Performs operating room turnover activities and cleaning procedures according to established standards.
Maintains an environment that is clean and free of clutter and takes appropriate action to corrects hazards
Maintains hallways and equipment room(s) by keeping them orderly and free from obstruction; adheres to fire codes in placement of carts and equipment.
Maintains cleaning supplies and equipment for instrument turnover and disinfection in soiled utility room.
Empties refuse containers and dispose in soiled utility room; maintains cleaning logs to ensure scheduled duties are performed in a timely manner.
Uses standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when working around or handling hazardous substances, including blood and body fluids.
Provides support to OR personnel in order to ensure safe, effective and efficient care processes.
Assists in lifting, turning, positioning and preparing patients for surgical procedures, using proper body mechanics, appropriate repetitive relief measures and static posture relief measures
Transports blood, specimens, x-rays, equipment, supplies between a variety of departments and patient care areas as needed.
Ensures a professional, respectful and effective patient care and working environment through consistent use of appropriate interpersonal and communication skills.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient, coworker and Elliot Hospital information as appropriate.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Prior OR support Tech experience/housekeeping experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Medical Technician Certification from the State of New Hampshire required.
Software/Hardware: Basic knowledge of computer skills and programs such Internet Explorer, and the Epic System.
