Providence is calling a Perioperative Aide 1 to its Main Operating Room team at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR. This is a per diem position. Most shifts available will be evening shifts from 2:30pm - 11:00pm, all days including some weekends.

You will have visibility to available shifts at least 4 weeks in advance. We are seeking someone who would like to work often (as close to full-time as possible). Anyone interested in this position will need to be available for 6 weeks of full-time training up front. The training will be day shift from 7am-3:30pm for 3 weeks, and 2:30pm-11pm for another 3 weeks. You will then be able to pick up evening shifts on an on-call/per diem basis afterward.

In this position, you will:

  • Function as a member of the surgical team, while under the direct supervision and direction of the registered perioperative nurse.

  • Assist in the operating room (OR) function by cleaning and preparing operating rooms, safely transporting patients, retrieving and decontaminating equipment, stocking general supplies in the operating rooms.

  • Provide limited patient care by assisting with prepping and opening supplies before surgery.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the orientation period

  • Basic computer skills may be required

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Recent healthcare and/or operating room experience

Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range * FTE: 0.5 Part Time * Schedule: Variable * Salary Range: $16.88 - 22.50 per hour * Location: Portland, OR (Marquam Hill) * Job Type: Union Represented (AFSCME) Functions/Duties of Position Provide assistance with cleaning and preparing operating rooms / patient care areas; retrieving and cleaning equipment, stocking rooms with needed supplies, supports the environment of the units, supports patient care as directed by RN and within their scope of service, transports instruments to and from Central SPD; discharge patients from CEI PACU. Job Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  * High School diploma or equivalent and one year work experience in any field. * Ability to communicate well with others. * Ability to safely lift and transfer patients, equipment, supplies. * Must be responsible and properly trained in the transportation of bio-hazardous items within 90 days * Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association at the provider level. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service orientation. Cooperation with and maintenance of good rapport with nursing staff, ancillary personnel, other departments, patients, and physicians. * Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with staff, patients, and visitors. * Basic computer skills may be required. * Good prioritization and organizational skills. * Flexibility, ability to deal effectively with unforeseen request or circumstances during a case. Prompt, efficient and dependable. Maintenance of patient and medical staff confidentiality. * Requires prioritization of multiple projects, activities and assignments. Frequent interruptions in an environment of frequent change and fluctuations. * May be exposed to excessive auditory and visual stimulation. * May be exposed to body fluids, tissue, radiation and infectious processes. * Subject to computer work as needed and able to utilize office equipment within work area. * Exposure to cleaning supplies. * Requires working in the OR environment. May require standing for several consecutive hours in the Operating Room unit. Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 75 lbs). * Ability to lift and position patients. Working in and around a sterile environment. Utilize proper body mechanics. Uses industrial cleaning agens and equpment following appropriate safety procedures. Subject to noise of equipment. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation. * Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
