JOB TITLE: Perinatal Sonographer

The Perinatal Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasounds on obstetrical patients in the Perinatal Testing Center and documents clinical findings.

This individual must be able to cover all four MLH Perinatal Testing Center sites located at Lankenau, Bryn Mawr, Paoli, and Riddle Hospitals.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares patient for procedure, explains procedure to patients and performs sonograms.

  • Obtains patient history, correlates history with the test and study performed with Perinatologist. Verifies blood type if patient having CVS or amniocentesis.

  • Operates complex ultrasound equipment.

  • Responds to schedule needs determined by Nurse Manager and Lead Perinatal Sonographer

  • Instructs OB residents and interested medical personnel in basics of ultrasound technology in high-risk obstetrics.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from approved program in Radiology Technology preferred or graduation from accredited school of Allied Health Field.

  • Completion of one year formal training in ultrasonography, including academic clinical rotations.

  • Successful completion of all orientation requirements.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION:

  • Current NT certification

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

  • OB/GYN certification

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum two years ultrasonography experience, including at least one year high-risk OB ultrasonography experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expertise is required in ultrasound guided needle sampling, prenatal diagnostic, biophysical testing including doppler velocimetry.

  • Fetal pediatric echocardiography experience preferred.

Position Summary A Sonographer Staff is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician in accordance with established scanning protocols. * Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures. * Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care is provided. * Addresses problems of patient care as they arise, and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. * Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required * Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients while the examination is being performed * Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor. * Provides in-service education team on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team. * Maintains assigned equipment and vehicles in proper working order. * Performs other related duties as assigned.
