Job Summary
The Perinatal Educator works in the Department of Lactation Services under the supervision of the Supervisor of Lactation and Prenatal Services. The Perinatal Educator is responsible for providing perinatal education to hospital staff and members of the community.
Essential Functions
Provides perinatal education through scheduled classes and support groups, both in-person and virtually. Teaches a minimum of 8 classes/year.
Assists in directing the design, implementation, and evaluation of Stanford Health Care
Assists in maintaining educational files for SHC-VC Lactation and Prenatal Services.
Attends and completes all SHC-VC Lactation and Prenatal Services meetings, in-services, required training including online education, and annual hands-on skills competencies.
Arrives on time for instruction, allowing for adequate time for classroom set-up.
Assesses student's learning needs to meet course objectives and delivers education at an educational level of that of the student.
Serves as a mentor to other instructors in SHC-VC Lactation and Prenatal Services.
Displays a commitment to their professional practice by attending continuing education classes, conferences, and webinars with a focus on obstetrics, infant care, and infant nutrition.
Secures and maintains instructional material, reference material, audio-visual equipment, and props for class demonstrations.
Maintains security of all teaching materials including audio-visual, tests and answer keys, provider cards (when applicable), and class rosters.
Ensures educational materials, props, and equipment are cleaned after use according to SHC-VC Infection Control guidelines and manufacturer's recommendations.
Develops proficiency with equipment for classes and seeks out training, as needed.
Communicates with students in a professional manner using inclusive language and showing respect
Uses discretion when addressing sensitive matters with students and maintains student/patient privacy in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Communicates with the Supervisor of Lactation and Prenatal Services regarding availability for classes and changes in schedule.
Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Health Care
Job Qualifications
Education
Associate Degree required
Bachelor's Degree desirable
Experience
Licenses and Certifications
Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
Lamaze certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong organizational and presentation skills
Strong oral/written communications skills
Experience with teaching adult learners;
Strong computer skills: Word/Excel/Power Point
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong customer service skills

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $37.00 - $48.00 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
