Performing Arts & Drama Production, Stagecraft And Design Teacher At Brookline High School (Grades 9-12)

Job Description:
The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a production stagecraft and design teacher for a 0.5FTE position in the Brookline High School Drama & Performing Arts Departments. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated educator to inspire, foster creativity, and instill a love of stagecraft and design in our students. This position offers an exciting opportunity to nurture students' talents and cultivate a lifelong passion for theater. We are looking for a collaborative and creative educator who is committed to providing high-quality instruction and creating enriching experiences for high school students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in our robust school day and extracurricular program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teach Backstage: Power Tools and Special Effects class, focused on building sets for school productions. Teach safe and comprehensive use of power tools and production equipment.
Teach Design for the Stage class, focused on design theory. Teach scenic, lighting, sound and costume design.
Follow and adapt a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs and interests of students, differentiating to reach and support all students.
Maintain safe and efficient studio and classroom spaces including the operation of all necessary machines, tools, and equipment
Meet weekly with Drama colleagues, attend Performing Arts Department meetings and participate in the greater school community through meetings and duties as assigned
Ability to teach drama for future possibility of teaching drama curriculum [*for the 2024-2025 school year, this teacher will likely only teach Backstage and Design for Stage classes due to enrollment]
Required Qualifications:
Scenic and production design/operation skills
Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods
Strong classroom management skills
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of students and the school community
Ability to reflect on personal learning through the analysis of one's teaching practice, student learning data, and the teaching practices of others
Ability to be open to constructive critique of supervisors, administrators, and colleagues
Ability to collaborate with all faculty
Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Theater
Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
Drama teaching and/or directing experience
Reports To:
The K-12 Performing Arts Curriculum Coordinator and school building principal
