We're seeking a Performance Production Costume Shop Manager to plan, organize, direct, and manage day-to-day activities, developing and implementing procedures for the administration of the of the Costume Shop. Your Opportunity to Contribute:

  • Production and pre-production
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and manages the day-to-day activities of production and pre-production. Plans, coordinates, and supervises the logistics of production and maintenance equipment and supplies. Budget and purchase all costume materials for productions. Provides and manages budget reports and progress reports to Production Manager. Oversees the cutting of all fabric for built costume elements. Schedules and participates in all fittings. Responsible for the fabrication of all patterns by draping or flat pattern making. Collaborates with design faculty to review and revise production designs. Supervises all costume, pattern and design revisions and alterations. Collaborates with scene and light designers to ensure costume vision translates to stage.
  • Supervision and Training
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student technicians' skill level to assign projects/tasks accordingly to improve sewing and problem-solving skills to include, but not limited to: measuring, laundry and ironing, cleaning and organization, garment care and storage, hand sewing, machine sewing and other shop machinery, patterning, draping, costume crafts, and fitting etiquette. Schedule student worker's costume shop hours; instructing student staff in the technical aspects of costume construction and the proper and safe use of associated machinery. Enforces shop and theatre safety practices.
  • Costume Design
  • Designs costumes for productions at the School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts. Serves as a design consultant for faculty on the costume design process. Provides subject matter expertise on design, textiles, fabrics, and cost. Creates renderings or sketches of designs for faculty directors and choreographers. Lead meetings in consultation with choreographers and directors to create a cohesive design for the production. Plans construction process for each garment. Perform historical or other research pertinent to the costume designs of assigned productions. Oversees the costume design timeline.
  • Resource Management and Meeting involvement
  • Oversees maintenance of shop equipment and makes recommendations for repairs and purchasing. Manages costume resources to include inventory, stock, supplies, storage, maintenance, and repair. Manages all shop paperwork, budget, schedules, and time-sheets. Attends TAMU and PVFA staff meetings; production meetings and all tech/dress rehearsals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Fashion Design, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience with five years of related experience in theatre design/costuming.

  • A well-qualified candidate may have work experience in stage/film productions, especially within the costume and wardrobe department with excellent sewing and design skills and/or MFA in Theatre or Fashion Design

  • Knowledge of costume design work, draping, cutting, millinery, dying and shop mechanics and machinery
