Job Summary:

Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland is seeking a part-time (0.8 FTE) Performance Improvement Specialist to join our team!

Responsibilities:

  • Collects, enters, and analyzes quality and performance data; Generates reports and makes recommendations for future improvement based on analysis

  • Assist in the implementation of performance improvement activities using proven tools and best practices; Efforts lead to a positive and measurable impact on process and outcome measures

  • Assists in developing and executing innovative programs to address deficits in areas of quality, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement

  • Provides training and technical assistance to staff and managers for various quality and performance databases (i.e. patient satisfaction, policies/procedures, safety event reporting)

  • Supports coordination of hospital-wide accreditation efforts including staff education and survey preparedness

  • Assists in the investigation and resolution of patient complaints and grievances

  • Assists with administrative duties such as taking meeting minutes

  • May perform additional duties as assigned

Serves as improvement leader and advisor to the regional care delivery leadership team. Essential Responsibilities: Leads Care Delivery's improvement strategy to achieve results and to build a culture of continuous improvement. Is a member of the Care Delivery leadership team with a dotted line reporting relationship with the Chief Operating Officer to lead, oversee and guide improvement strategy. Advises on Care Delivery's improvement portfolio ensuring alignment with strategy and delivery of measurable results. Ensures regional alignment with KP's PI System Criteria for Excellence, leading the Organizational Assessment each year. Applies appropriate change management strategies and tools. Works with teams to build processes and systems to ensure sustainability of improvement over time. Applies basic to advanced concepts, principles, theories and techniques to systematically approach performance improvement efforts. Promotes best practices from internal as well as and external sources. Assists teams with using, collecting and analyzing data for decisions. Uses appropriate statistical process control methods. Builds improvement capability throughout the organization through training, coaching, mentoring and promoting opportunities for application. Coaches, mentors, facilitates and guides teams and new Improvement Advisors in use of performance improvement tools. Partners with Learning and Organizational Effectiveness, Quality, Service, Finance, National Performance Improvement mentors and others to develop comprehensive performance improvement and Performance Excellence system. Provides leadership to UBT program for assessing training needs, alignment of UBT projects to the region's Operating Plan and support for the continued development of the UBT program. Facilitates requests for performance improvement resources and assesses fit with available resources and skills, as well as strategic fit and value to company. Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility by maintaining confidentiality, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements, and policies and procedures. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors. Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum six (6) years demonstrated direct experience in Performance Improvement Minimum two (2) years previous management role/demonstrated experience managing others. Education Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in a directly related field. License, Certification, Registration Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification required, or other comparable process improvement/project management certification with the ability to receive Black Belt certification within three (3) years of hire/transfer. Additional Requirements: Evidence of successful work on multiple strategic improvement projects Demonstrated skills in leadership, teaching, facilitation, coaching and mentoring Extensive knowledge of performance improvement methods and tools. Demonstrated project management skills Strong strategic and critical thinking skills Knowledge of advanced statistics to include hypothesis testing concepts, correlation and regression analysis, multivariate and attribute data analysis, and other advanced statistics Knowledge of advanced performance improvement methods and tools such as sustainability, spread and scale, rapid improvement events, management systems, business process management, advanced patient safety science, change management, innovation and ethnography. Ability to work across multiple business units and organizations. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum eight (8) years of demonstrated direct experience in Performance Improvement and the equivalent of, or attainment of a Master Black Belt designation. Minimum five (5) years of previous management role/demonstrated experience managing others. Minimum one (1) year of experience in Health Care preferred. Master's degree.
