The Performance Improvement Consultant for the Emergency Department (ED) will meet data performance improvement (PI) objectives specific to the ED, supporting ED efficiencies toward patient flow, throughput and quality delivery of care.

  • You will independently facilitate improvement teams effectively using relationships to facilitate change.

  • You will apply a broad range of PI tools and methodologies successfully (for example: Lean and Six Sigma).

  • You will effectively utilize problem-solving techniques as well as support health system monitoring efforts (for example: Dashboards).

  • You will identify, develop and implement key metrics to measure process, performance and opportunity assuring integrity of data sets and data elements through routine and systematic procedures.

  • You will effectively communicate by providing concise reports of activities and results to support decision-making demonstrating persistent and persuasive communication (written and verbal).

  • You independently prioritize work to support multiple projects and meet deadlines, handling day-to-day operational aspects of project and scope ensuring project documents are complete, current and accurate.

  • You will maintain strong knowledge in PI methodology, tools, and theory.

  • You will reflect the mission, vision and values of Cedars-Sinai by adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program.

  • You will follow all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.

  • Coursework in a quantitative field (for example: statistics, business, science, engineering).

  • Coursework or background in statistics.

  • Excellent technical knowledge of software applications (for example: Tableau)

  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of progressive responsibility in the application of PI and statistical process control methodologies and independent facilitation of PI teams.

  • Two (2) years of recent experience in an acute healthcare setting highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of health care regulations, accreditation, and licensing requirements.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of advanced statistics

  • Excellent analytical, decision-making and, analytical skills.

  • Dynamic personality and excellent oral, written and, interpersonal skills.

  • Be willing to work both collaboratively and independently within a deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to quickly develop and maintain productive relationships with team members.

  • Ability to project an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.

VIEW JOBS 3/19/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-17T00:00 POSITION SUMMARY The Unit Secretary performs a variety of general clerical and non-clinical patient duties, facilitates communication, expedites interdepartmental services and complies and keeps records required on the nursing unit. Reporting to the Clinical Unit Supervisor, the Unit Secretary has accountability for the responisbilities listed below. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality and performance improvement process activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Pre-Opening Responsibilities * Attend Super User training for the Care Collaborative System. * Participate in integrated testing for the Care Collaborative System. * Assist in the Care Collaborative Systen training for new employees. * Assist with unit set-up of equipment, supplies, patient rooms, etc. * Assist with unit orientation of new employees. * Assist with creating useful "How To" handouts for the Care Collaborative System. * Any other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager to assure the unit is ready for the hospital opening. Post-Opening Responsibilities * Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, other hospital departments and unit staff. * Role models the hospital's patient satisfaction efforts when interacting with patients, visitors and colleagues. * Answers the telephone, provides courteous assistance, the correct persons are summoned, messages are recorded with the date, time, message and person calling. * Answers patient call system promptly; designates level of care requested (licensed or non-licensed) on nurse call system; sends alert to respective care givers phone; and patient receives response to initial request within 5 minutes or is kept informed of progress toward delivery of requested service. * Participates in the ADT process: makes sure room is ready for next patient; aware of 30 day readmissions; makes sure appropriate paperwork is ready for patient transfers; and discharges patients to the lobby. * Coordinates with Care Management concerning admissions, transfers and discharges and notifies hospitalist if needed. * Aware of planned state orders in Cerner. * Works with Care Management to access records from other facilities and/or prior MLKCH hospitalizations. * Greets patients and visitors upon arrival to the unit: escorts admits/transfers to room; orients patient to room, call light use, TV; and tells them the name of their registered nurse and PCT. Practices age and population specific awareness with patients and visitors. * Assists with belongings inventory on admit and discharge; belongings disposition for those left behind; and belongings audits. * Makes hospitality rounds every shift (HCAHPS survey). * Makes unit rounds to: check for needed repairs; remove equipment left in room; and check computer function/ laminated teaching tools attached to WOWs. * Stock isolation ante rooms. * Maintain inventory of unit property. * Nurses station, workroom, supply room, equipment storage and multipurpose rooms are kept tidy and free of clutter. * Participates in unit-based initiatives that promote patient safety and support customer service goals. * Aware of Watson Model of Care including key elements of Caring, Competence, Communication and Commitment. * Participates in Quality and Performance Improvement data collection and unit metrics as requested. Performs IPOC audits. * Upholds professional appearance and demonstrates such through adherence to dress code: wears ID badge and promotes the standard of proper identification for peers and staff. * Any other duties as assigned by the Clinical Unit Supervisor or Nurse Manager.
