JOB SUMMARY

The Performance Engineer creates enterprise-level performance test strategies, tools, and processes. Designs scenarios and workflows that test stability, endurance, scalability, response time, etc. Measures and reports on key metrics indicating software performance in different environments and under different customer usage scenarios. Creates processes and strategies that bring performance testing closer to the developer experience, enabling them to create high-quality, scaling software earlier in the SDLC. Evangelizes a performance-aware culture. Has a passion for creating self-service tools and processes, which enables others to quickly deliver high quality software.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and execute testable user-scenarios related to performance and scalability

  • Collect and report on key performance metrics

  • Create self-service tools that enable teams to test performance early

  • Document processes, technologies, and workflows

  • Collaborate with teams from all parts of the software delivery process

  • Research new technologies

  • Train others on new technologies and processes

  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Experience with Performance/Scalability tools such as Gatling, JMeter, LoadRunner, OpenSTA, Silk Performer, etc.

  • Work experience includes design and coding with modern software development tools and languages such as: Scala, Java, .Net, SQL Server, etc

  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure

  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to constructive criticism

EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES

  • Career position within field

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer related discipline (Computer Science, Computer engineering, Information Systems, etc.) or equivalent work experience

  • 3-5 years of practical Build Engineer, DevOps, Software Pipeline delivery experience

  • Conducts complex work important to the organization with little to no supervision

  • Experience with regulated software validation concepts is beneficial

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Operate a computer and work at a desk for extended periods of time

  • Communicate effectively in writing, in person, over the telephone and in e-mail
