Overview of Nursing Department at HUMC
Hackensack University Medical Center's Emergency Trauma Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to work in a 65 Bed state of the art facility. This role includes performing initial patient assessments, partner with physicians to devise, implement, and evaluate plan of care while administering medications, IV, monitor vital signs and provide patients with support and education on diagnosis, treatment options and disease process. The ETC serves a diverse patient population and handles complex patient cases.
The nurse will have an essential role in coordinating care with physicians, other team members, patients and families. The unit is focused on continuously improving processes to improve patient care. The ETC is comprised as one of the busiest emergency departments in the country, and is a state designated Level II DS certified trauma center. Our nurses serve as an advocate for their patients and their significant others to promote, maintain or restore health. The ideal candidate must be able to balance time management and prioritization, including patient/family education as a priority. We also offer self-scheduling, 12 hour shifts, ongoing educational classes, national certification support and individualized coaching from our Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Responsibilities Demonstrates familiarity with the shared governance model, the blue print for professional nursing and performance improvement. Functions as a Registered Professional Nursing using the patient centered care model by consistently delivering safe and appropriate care to a specific patient population utilizing the nursing process. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status. Plans individualized patient care based on assessment and implements well defined interventions in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Evaluates patient's response to interventions and make appropriate changes to achieve desired outcomes in progressing patients to a predefined length of stay. Accurately documents the components of the nursing process per HUMC policy. Demonstrates respectful and effective communication with patients, families and colleagues. Develops on emerging awareness of ethical issues and how they relate to clinical practice. Demonstrates applied knowledge base in areas of policies, procedures, standards of care and medications by utilizing HUMC intranet references as resource to deliver proper patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Graduate of a NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing
BSN or minimum of 1 year experience for existing, internal RN candidates only
Minimum of 1 year prior Emergency Department nursing experience
