Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of a Pharmacist supports pharmacological services by ordering, stocking, preparing, and distributing medications in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
Schedule:
Per Diem
Varied Weekdays between 6AM-8PM (8 or 10 hour shifts)
Essential Job Functions:
Answers and screens phone calls for the pharmacists
Accurately pulls medications for the Pyxis refill
Accurately delivers and refills medications into the Pyxis machine
Prints and analyzes reports as instructed
Keeps record of Pyxis lost inventory
Orders pharmacy supply of medications according to stock levels
Repackages medications into unit dose containers
Prepares sterile IV compounded medications according to USP 797/800 guidelines
Troubleshoots various issues within the medication distribution system
Accurately refills crash cart trays
Rotates stock and checks for expired medication throughout the facility
Participates in assigned projects
Efficiently and accurately completes the tasks on the pharmacy technician checklist
Assists in the training of new pharmacy technician staff members
Be an active participant in meetings
Delivers medications throughout the facility
Assists the pharmacist in assigned tasks
Disposes of pharmaceuticals according to policy and procedure
Maintains medication barcodes in Meditech and Pyxis
Restocks the pharmacy shelves with supplies from materials management according to posted levels
Accurately and timely puts away the pharmacy order
Assists the pharmacist with appropriate billing of medications
Demonstrates proficiency in the pharmacy distribution services
Demonstration of aseptic technique according to USP 797/800 guidelines
Actively collaborates and demonstrates teamwork to ensure drug distribution is communicated and delivered safely and effectively
Supports the educational and professional development of the Pharmacy department
Maintains positive working relationships with peers, management and customers
Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities
Communicates effectively with patients, patient family and all of the healthcare
Maintains a limited hospital formulary
Reports medication errors and adverse drug reactions in a timely fashion
Maintains privacy at all times for patient and employee information
Actively participates in practice specific hospital alert response when necessary
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Food and Drug Administration
Assists in the training, educating and mentoring of students in the Pharmacy field
Complies with Joint Commission standards and Patient Safety Goals
Protects patients by adhering to infection-control protocols
Actively participates in the development and implementation of performance/quality improvement and patient safety activities
Routinely works rotating shifts. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly shortened/extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical schedule
Regular and prompt work-site attendance
Complies with the OakLeaf customer service standards
Other duties as they are assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
Certified Pharmacy Technician or Certification within 3 months of hire
Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital environment preferred
Ability to relate and work effectively with others
Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
Is aware of professional standards and performs in accordance with them
