Position Summary:

Assist practitioners in the preparation and treatment of patients under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Areas of Responsibility: Become proficient in all areas of responsibility, including but not limited to:

  • After orientation will independently function in one of the MA roles.

  • Build relationships with patients, staff and providers to ensure excellent customer service.

  • Communicate with providers, other staff, and patients to promote optimum clinic flow.

  • Learn and follow Petaluma Health Center (PHC) policies, procedures, and methods pertaining to the job.

  • Room patients, take and document vital signs including height, weight, BMI. Temperature, respirations, and blood pressure.

  • Collect and document patient history.

  • Perform routine screening procedures such as hearing and vision test and document findings.

  • Perform various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to; fingersticks for hemoglobin checks, ear washes, nebulizer treatments, urine dipsticks, specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures, wound cleaning, and Purified Proteain Derivatives (PPD) placement, International Normalized Ratio (INR), glucose, Human Choriocic Gonadotripin (HCG), Hemoglobin A1C.

  • Administer immunizations, document in EMR.

  • Ensure that all logs, forms, records, and charts are complete, thorough, and accurate.

  • Documents freezer and refrigerator temperature.

  • Prepare treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flow.

  • Provide patient education and follow-up care instructions.

  • Perform panel management and non-visit tasks as assigned by provider or RN.

  • Practice standard safety precautions, to ensure safety to self, other staff, and patients including handling of contained waste and sharps, and cleaning the Ultrasound machine and Electrocardiogram (EKG) machine.

  • Recommend improvement in processes and practices through the proper channels.

  • Take an accurate message and respond in a timely manner.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 - 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Repetitive motion with word processing and data entry. Heavy phone use.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California or documented equivalent training on a physician's office (at minimum, training must conform to the state's program of California Medical Assistant Regulations BPC 1366.1-1366.4).

  • 0-2 yrs experience.

  • Eligible for certification or is entry level with certification in place.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Medical Assistant Certification/Eligible.

  • Venipuncture and injection certifications and or competency.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish with children and adults in person, on the telephone, and in writing.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and request from patients, co-workers, and others as necessary.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to recognize problems, collect data, and establish facts.

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Use of a web browser.

  • Electronic Medical Records.

Job Summary: Facility supervision for medical staff services including meeting management, credentialing/re-credentialing/privileging oversight, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures development and revision. Responsible for departmental operations, budgeting, planning, development of information systems and coordination of information flow with other departments and the medical and allied health staffs. Area Responsibilities: * Oversees Medical Staff Services including personnel, planning, budgeting, directing, staffing, evaluation, and the development of policies and procedures to assure accomplishment of strategic goals for the department and organization. * Monitors the process for applications, reapplications and privileging for medical and allied health professional staff for the entity medical staff services. * Provides administrative consultation to the medical staff leadership for grievance procedures and the fair hearing process in accordance with the medical staff bylaws and the rules and regulations and works with legal counsel as needed. * Oversees the peer review process and facilitates corrective actions. * Oversees and assures compliance of monthly Medical Staff department, section and committee meetings as addressed in the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations. Hospital Responsibilities: * Attends meetings and participates on committees as required. Records and summarizes meeting minutes and performs appropriate follow up. Maintains as confidential, accurate and up to date Medical Staff Department, Committee and Section minutes. Keeps the MEC/EC apprised of medical staff activity as needed, coordinator medical staff meeting agenda preparation, participant notification, and room and food service scheduling. * Performs administrative tasks as needed for Administration and Medical Staff and acts as liaison to the Medical Staff Leadership CMO, and the Executive Management Team. .Works with Hospital Administration and the Medical Staff providing resources needed to enable the medical staff fulfill their duties and obligations as defined by TJCA, DHS, CMS and other regulatory agencies, the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Policies and as delegated by the Hospitals Board. * Maintains appropriate documentation for TJC/CMS/DHS compliance and recommends changes as necessary to fulfill survey requirements review and revisions of Medical Staff Policies and Procedures, Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations. Follow legal, State and Federal Agency, State Licensing board, TJC and RM guidelines and/or regulations. * Prepares monthly summary of all Medical Staff Department and Committee activities and forwards to the Medical Executive Committee/EC and to the Board for review and/or action.
