POSITION SUMMARY:

Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA child care program(s).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school age child care program for assigned location. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.

  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

  • Maintains proper records/department files, bills Department of Social Services as required.

  • Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.

  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Distribute and collect parent and participant evaluations.

  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

  • To promote the physical, intellectual, social, cultural and emotional well-being of the children.

  • Ensure regular and timely communication with the Program /Branch Director regarding programming, child and staff issues.

  • To be on site during the full duration of each program segment.

  • Ensure adequate supplies for planned programs, food, etc.

  • Be a role model for staff on following work site requirements regarding customer service, punctuality, appropriate dress, staff meetings, safety, etc.

  • Carry out other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.

  • One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law. School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required.

  • Child Watch and Prime Time staff must be at least 18 years of age at hire date.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date.

  • Demonstrated mastery of varied and learner-centered teaching methods and skills that promote independence.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.

Vision, hearing, speech and movement abilities in order to provide safe supervision of children at all times.
