With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the SC Dept. of Mental Health at Santee-Wateree Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) in the ROI Program located at 1175 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC.,
Under general supervision, the Parent Peer Support Specialist (Project Connect Program) provides individualized rehabilitative psychosocial support and recovery planning to family members/caregivers of children, adolescents, and young adults in the clinic and school setting. 29150.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Interacts effectively with caregivers and youth by sharing common experiences and modeling resiliency and recovery.
Assists in engaging with families involved in child welfare, criminal justice, behavioral health, and educational systems.
Establish and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with parents or caregivers of youth.
Offer a compassionate and non-judgmental listening ear, providing emotional support and understanding to address their concerns and challenges.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Min. T&E - Experience in a social service program.
DMH Min. T&E (Internal) - High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Lived Experience - should have firsthand experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with current or former consumer of mental health services.
Note: Applicants must also meet Agency minimum requirements to be considered for this position.
