The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties Inc. is looking to fill the position of Peer Support Specialist. This position is per diem, $17.00 per hour. The main worksite is located at Apogee Center 160 Fairview Ave. In Hudson NY, 12534.

The Apogee Center is a free-standing wellness center serving Columbia County, the mission of which is to provide peer support to adults pursuing mental health recovery and empowerment. Activities are geared to encourage authentic dialogue and help people overcome stigma, recognize strengths, and find their place in the community. Services include individual support, peer-led support groups, advocacy, Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) development, benefits advisement, and community participation opportunities. The Center also sponsors various wellness and recovery events.

Job duties include:

  • Meet with individuals who are pursuing mental health recovery for the purpose of supporting their recovery and helping identify their "passion for life".

  • Accompany recipients of services to community participation opportunities.

  • Facilitate peer led support groups.

  • Accurately record services delivered to recipients.

  • Attend all scheduled supervision meetings.

  • Complete all training requirements as directed by the Center.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of recipients of service.

Requirements

  • Must have or be able to obtain a NYS Peer Support Specialist Certification.

  • Current or former recipient of mental health services who is comfortable disclosing their own recovery path as part of their work.

  • Self-starter who works independently in the community and maintains professional relationships with staff, providers, and recipients.

  • A knowledge and understanding of mental health recovery.

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of urban, suburban, and rural cultures and with community members from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.

  • Must be able to work regularly outside the office and in the field to engage with clients.

  • Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, electronic, and interpersonal skills.

  • Regular and steady attendance is a requirement for all positions.
