Specialties / Licenses or Certifications

  • Peer Support Specialist Certification preferred

  • Experience in delivering peer support services with a focus on recovery education in art and other media. Peer Support group work and/or employment experience preferred.

$18.00 - $19.00/hr

Our Position

The Peer Support Specialist II provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The Peer Support Specialist II also assists in implementing/creating a recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual. The Peer Support Specialist II provides support to participants through assisting in resume building, job searching and recovery planning.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provides coaching to Peer Support staff through role modeling and guidance.

  • Acts as a mentor for new team members, facilitating training opportunities for professional development.

  • Aids participants with resume building, job searching and recovery planning.

  • Assists with initial introductions to clinical team, serving as point of contact for participants.

  • Coordinates with the individual's clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.

  • Completes clinical notes as required.

  • Coordinate transportation to external resources and facilitate community integration.

  • Skilled in creating peer level curriculum.

  • Provides support for participant wellness, groups, and other activities that strengthen recovery.

  • Provides peer support to engage participants in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant's hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.

  • Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.

  • Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.

  • Cultivates connectedness in the person's life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).

  • Understands and adheres to RI International compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Our Requirements

  • Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.

  • Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Two (2) year of full-time behavioral health experience.

  • Additional training in peer-related topics required.

  • Experience in community navigation, resume writing, curriculum development, and family peer support.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines and regulations) and professionalism.

  • Must be able to pass substance abuse testing and/or tuberculous testing (if applicable).

  • Must be able to pass education verification check.

  • Must be able to pass three-year motor vehicle report and meet minimum eligibility requirements criteria of insurance carrier (if driving is required for this position).

Driving Requirements:

  • If driving is required for this position, must meet all requirements outlined in RI International driving policy.

  • If not qualified to drive per driving policy, a Non-Driver Attestation form must be signed.

A Direct Service Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.

Physical Demands:

May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination, use of corrected vision; color vision; use of auditory senses. May be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

Work Environment

May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility. May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused.
