Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:
1.Provides a welcoming environment for the client while in the Community Based Clinic, or Emergency Department.
2.Provides comfort items as needed i.e. food, encouragement, support, activities while waiting.
3.Works collaboratively with the ESP evaluator and assists in arranging services to which the individual is being referred.
4.Ensures that the client understands what is happening during the evaluation process and assists with communication.
5.Shares skills learned that have been useful in managing stress in the community.
6.Engages appropriately with clients to support them in identifying strengths, existing supports and community resources.
7.Assists and supports clients in the Crisis Stabilization Unit as needed.
8.Other related duties as assigned.

T-About the Job

Works as part of the Emergency Services Program staff to provide a safe and welcoming environment for the client presenting for mental health crisis evaluations in the ED, clinic, or during mobile evaluations.


Bachelor degree preferred, other education/training/experience considered. Have personal knowledge of mental illness via their own lived experience with recovery. Currently have Certification as a Peer Specialist or willing to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Demonstrates good boundaries regarding confidentiality and personal relationships, while at the same time be able to share personal knowledge about recovering from mental illness.

Demonstrates strong knowledge and skills regarding the recovery process.

Demonstrates the ability to evaluate what is needed by each individual and adjust approach accordingly. Have in-depth knowledge of local resources.

VIEW JOBS 9/28/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-27T00:00 The Peer Leadership Coordinator (PLC) works in one of the Service Enhanced Access Centers (SEAC) of the Enhanced Young Adult Program (EYAP) to coordinate YYA leadership activities, conduct engagement activities and ensure youth voice is reflected throughout the SEAC. The PLC is a key member of the SEAC leadership team. Job Duties and Responsibilities: The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below: * Works with YYA (if YYA chooses) to enhance skills of self-direction and empowerment. * Provides outreach and engagement activities that lead to the establishment of a Young Adult Leadership Council. * Provides outreach and marketing efforts to educate YYA and other stakeholders in the community about the program and services offered. * Acts as staff liaison to the Young Adult Leadership Council. * Promotes YYA participation in other local and statewide leadership councils, such as the Department of Mental Health (DMH) Statewide Mental Health Planning Council Youth Development Subcommittee. * As a member of SEAC leadership team, ensures YYA decision making power is present in all aspects of the SEAC operation. * Supports YYA and facilitates and promotes YYA voice in policy and programmatic decisions and service design and improvement to ensure services are relevant. * Coordinates the inclusion of YYA in the interview and hiring of all staff positions. * Arranges trainings/forums in collaboration with the SEAC Director that are based on YYA feedback and are opportunities through networking efforts for YYA to give back to the community. * Helps YYA in developing supportive relationships and community connections. * Helps YYA in communicating and working effectively with service providers, employers, natural supports, family members, and others to achieve their goals. * Promotes healthy lifestyles and wellness practices including substance misuse. * Educates DMH and SEAC staff around engagement strategies that retain YYA in services. * Helps YYA in developing life skills, finding their voice, and identifying and using their strengths. * Uses Achieve My Plan, Gathering, and Inspiring Future Talent, motivational interviewing, harm reductions and other evidence information/based and best practice models as trained, models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. * Performs other duties, as assigned.
