The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for the position of Aflac Neuro-Oncology Clinician. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for basic, clinical, and translational research and boasts a diverse faculty. Ideal candidates will have a strong record of demonstrated clinical expertise caring for pediatric neuro-oncology patients. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has close affiliations with research investigators within the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a willingness to collaborate across departmental or center boundaries is essential. This is for a one year limited term appointment to the rank of Senior Associate or Instructor.

About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center

The successful candidate will join one of the strongest pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the country.

  • Our program has 123 faculty and approximately 50 Advance Practice Providers (APPs).

  • We conduct basic, translational, and clinical research in gene therapy, focusing on CAR T-cell therapies, hemoglobinopathies, and hemophilia.

  • Nearly 9,000 children with cancer and blood disorders are treated annually at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.

  • The Aflac pediatric hematology program is one of the largest in the country (including over 2,000 active patients with sickle cell disease, and 600 with bleeding or clotting disorders).

  • The Aflac blood and marrow transplantation program performed over 80 transplants last year, and with over 100 transplants in sickle cell disease, is one of the leaders in curative therapies for hemoglobinopathies.

  • In 2022, we were ranked No. 8 in the nation by US News and World Report for Pediatric Cancer.

  • In 2022, our faculty generated nearly $43.3M in extramural funding including more than $27.7M from the NIH.

  • Our pediatric oncology program cared for more than 480 new cancer cases last year and is the pediatric component of the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.

  • Our fellowship program accepts 6 fellows each year for intensive clinical and research training in pediatric hematology/oncology. We are one of the few pediatric programs with an NIH-funded T32 training grant in non-malignant hematology.

This position will devote the majority of effort to clinical responsibilities in the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

  • Provide exemplary clinical service and assure that patients cared for by you receive only the highest quality care.

  • Collaborate with other members of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University Department of Pediatrics, especially the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, in building multi-disciplinary research projects

  • Play a role in the education and training program of the pediatric Hem/Onc/BMT Division, including access to and involvement with medical students, residents, fellows, and occasionally physicians in practice.

Successful candidates will have:

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO degrees

  • Must be Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology

  • Must be currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Georgia

  • A history of clinical excellence/achievement

  • A strong history of mentorship of trainees and junior faculty to support growth in research and scholarship
