The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Nurse Clinician to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.

Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:

The Pediatric Pulmonary Nurse Clinician is a nursing leader and clinical expert who will function independently to provide education and care coordination for pediatric pulmonary patients across SFCH and the Pediatric Specialty Clinic. The Nurse Clinician for Pediatric Pulmonary will collaborate with the Pediatric Pulmonary team and other nurse leaders, staff, healthcare providers, and patients/families to provide and maintain excellent care for our pediatric patients across UI Stead Family Children's Hospital and UIHC. The role includes, but is not limited to; modeling excellence in clinical practice related to pediatric surgery, mentoring staff, providing education for healthcare staff, evaluating the effectiveness of education across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient settings, attend rounds and provide follow-up with team members, clinical problem solving, leading design and implementation of evidence-based quality improvement initiatives to improve the patient/family experience and to maintain knowledge of pediatric standards and protocols related to nursing care

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Day shift

Location: Stead Family Children's Hospital (SFCH)

Rotations: No holidays, No call, No weekends

Salary: $56,021.00 per year to commensurate

Required Qualifications:

  • A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required

  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required

  • 2 years' experience working with pediatric pulmonary populations

  • Demonstrated expertise in pulmonary diseases and treatment, specifically asthma, BPD and vent dependent populations

  • Evidence of strong clinical problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrated experience with quality improvement initiatives/evidence-based practice

  • Strong leadership skills evidenced by examples highlighting the candidate's ability to identify and initiate change, reliability, commitment to teamwork, and the ability to be self-directed

  • Approachable clinician with excellent written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated skill in interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Previous active involvement with patient and staff education

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional responsibilities and development including reliable work attendance, commitment to professional growth and willingness to obtain certification when eligible to take examination

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification in pediatrics and/or specialty
  • PRP (Department of Nursing Professional Recognition Program)
